Historique
Fondé en 1859, cet atelier de distillation de la gemme (résine blanche extraite du pin différente de la sève) a fonctionné jusqu'en 1954. En 1859, l'usine distillait 260 000 litres de matières résineuses, et 500 000 quelques années plus tard. La production était envoyée à Bordeaux et, de là, dans toute la France et à l'étranger. L'atelier se compose de trois bâtiments (réception-stockage de la résine, distillation et conditionnement de la colophane, stockage de la térébenthine) , d'un atelier de fabrication de barriques et des logements d'ouvriers. Contre le quai de réception sont adossées les charrettes qui apportaient la gemme que l'on vidait dans des barques, sortes de fosses à ciel ouvert. Transportée dans un wagonnet, puis épurée dans les chaudières, la gemme était ensuite distillée dans un alambic en cuivre, d'où s'écoulaient deux produits : l'essence de térébenthine et la colophane. Le magasin témoigne de l'évolution technologique du stockage : jarres en terre vernissée, puis cuves en cuivre, enfin cuves en tôle.

History
Founded in 1859, this workshop for the distillation of spirit of turpentine (white resin extracted from pine different from sap) operated until 1954. In 1859, the factory distilled 260,000 litres of resinous materials, and 500,000 a few years later. The production was sent to Bordeaux and, from there, throughout France and abroad. The workshop consists of three buildings (reception-storage of resin, distillation and conditioning of colophony, storage of turpentine), a workshop for the manufacture of barrels and workers' lodgings. Against the reception quay are set the carts which brought the spirit of turpentine which was emptied into barges, sorts of open pits. Transported in a small wagon, then purified in the boilers, the spirit of turpentine was then distilled in a copper alembic, from which two products flowed: turpentine essence and colophony. The storehouse witnesses the technological evolution of storage: glazed earthenware jars, then copper vats, finally sheet metal vats.
