Historique

History
The church of Saint-Etienne was demolished and rebuilt in 1853 away from the watercourse that flooded it regularly since 1843. The portal and the capitals of the choir bear witness, in the new building, to the vanished Romanesque church. The interior is adorned with mural paintings of classical spirit executed in 1854 by the painter from Mons Louis-Anselme Longa. The portal presents characteristics of a construction from the 12th century. It comprises several rolls of round arches resting on small columns or jambs. These arches are decorated, one with interlacing, the other with mouldings. The archivolt is ornamented with billettes. The sculpted capitals represent, on the right the dance of Herodias, on the left Daniel between two lions. The tympanum comprises the monogram of Christ with the indications "alpha" and "omega" in a circle. It is accompanied by the four symbols of the Evangelists.
