La construction de la cathédrale fut décidée en 1646, suite à l'écroulement du vieux clocher de l'édifice du 13e siècle. La construction s'étendit de 1656 à 1719, sur des plans qui auraient été réalisés par Vauban, et ne fut complètement terminée qu'en 1894. De l'édifice du 13e siècle il ne subsiste que l'ancien portail, reconstruit dans le bras nord. La façade sud présente un fronton à courbe et des décrochements (restaurée en 1894). La tour lanterne est ornée en style corinthien. La sacristie comporte une voûte qui pourrait être ancienne et des peintures inspirées de la fin du 17e siècle.

History
The construction of the cathedral was decided in 1646, following the collapse of the old bell tower of the 13th-century building. Construction extended from 1656 to 1719, on plans which are said to have been made by Vauban, and was not completely finished until 1894. Of the 13th-century building only the old doorway remains, rebuilt in the north arm. The south façade presents a curved pediment and stepped recesses (restored in 1894). The lantern tower is decorated in Corinthian style. The sacristy comprises a vault which could be ancient and paintings inspired by the late 17th century.
