History
Castle built by Pope Clement V at the beginning of the 14th century. Surviving to the present day almost intact, the edifice constitutes the largest and most accomplished example of lowland castles with its rectangular plan flanked at the angles by powerful towers to which are added at the centre of one front of the enclosure two other equally massive towers which command the entrance. The defensive architecture is combined with the amenities of a seigneurial dwelling with apartments widely lit onto the courtyard and onto the countryside.
