Historique
L'abbaye de Guîtres, de l'ordre de Cluny, a été fondée au plus tard pendant la dernière moitié du 11e siècle. L'église et la maison conventuelle sont encore visibles. L'église en forme de croix latine est romane, composée de trois nefs. L'abside est circulaire, voûtée en cul de four et s'ouvre par cinq ouvertures légèrement ogivales sur un déambulatoire flanqué de trois absidioles. Le transept est voûté en berceau et deux petites absides s'ouvrent sur la face orientale de ses bras. La croisée est surmontée d'une coupole sans pendentifs. La nef principale et les nefs latérales portent la trace de remaniements successifs. De la partie primitive ne subsistent que les murs latéraux des trois premières travées orientales. Les voûtes romanes ont été remplacées au 13e siècle. La façade occidentale porte également la trace de remaniements. La partie basse du 13e siècle est richement décorée d'arcatures. Elle est surmontée d'un pignon du 15e siècle. La charpente qui couvre la nef date du 15e siècle.

History
The abbey of Guîtres, of the Cluniac order, was founded at the latest during the second half of the 11th century. The church and conventional house are still visible. The church in the form of a Latin cross is Romanesque, composed of three naves. The apse is circular, vaulted in a half-dome and opens by five slightly pointed arched openings onto an ambulatory flanked by three absidioles. The transept is vaulted with a barrel vault and two small apses open onto the eastern face of its arms. The crossing is surmounted by a dome without pendentives. The main nave and the side naves bear the trace of successive remodelings. From the primitive part only the side walls of the three first eastern bays remain. The Romanesque vaults were replaced in the 13th century. The western facade also bears the trace of remodelings. The lower part of the 13th century is richly decorated with arcading. It is surmounted by a gable of the 15th century. The roof structure that covers the nave dates from the 15th century.
