Le 15 juillet 1752, la Jurade de Bordeaux prenait la délibération d'ouvrir dans les remparts du 14e siècle une nouvelle porte, entre celle de Sainte-Croix et celle de la Grace. Elle dut son nom à l'hôtel de la Monnaie qui se trouve au fond de la rue aboutissant à la porte. Cette dernière est formée de deux piédroits en pierre à refends qui encadrent l'ouverture dont l'arc est souligné par de grands claveaux. A la partie supérieure, d'épais modillons soutiennent l'entablement de la corniche. Sur la face interne, les piédroits sont moins larges car ils inscrivent un second arc surbaissé encadrant le premier. Le sommet de la porte est plat, formé d'une table en retrait sur la corniche.

History
On 15 July 1752, the Jurade of Bordeaux passed a resolution to open a new gate in the ramparts of the 14th century, between the gate of Sainte-Croix and that of la Grace. It took its name from the Hôtel de la Monnaie which stood at the end of the street leading to the gate. The latter is formed by two stone jambs with fluted decoration framing the opening, the arch of which is emphasised by large voussoirs. At the upper part, thick modillions support the entablature of the cornice. On the inner face, the jambs are narrower as they frame a second flattened arch enclosing the first. The top of the gate is flat, formed by a table set back from the cornice.
