Historique
La porte date de 1748, élevée par Tourny. Elle a remplacé une porte médiévale qui, elle-même, en avait remplacée une romaine. La construction dirigée par Voisin fut achevée en 1750. La décoration fut confiée à Claude Francin et consiste en quatre trophées aux extrémités des frontons. Sur le côté ouest, les armes de France et un cartouche portant la date de 1748. Sur le côté est, les armes de Bordeaux et un cartouche représentant une tête de Neptune accompagnée de veaux marins. La Révolution supprima les vantaux qui fermaient l'arcade centrale et les guichets qui étaient rendus inutiles par l'abolition des octrois.

History
The gate dates from 1748, built by Tourny. It replaced a medieval gate which itself had replaced a Roman gate. The construction directed by Voisin was completed in 1750. The decoration was entrusted to Claude Francin and consists of four trophies at the ends of the pediments. On the west side, the arms of France and a cartouche bearing the date of 1748. On the east side, the arms of Bordeaux and a cartouche representing a Neptune head accompanied by sea-calves. The Revolution removed the doors which closed the central arcade and the wicket gates which had become unnecessary by the abolition of tariffs.
