History

Presumably built in the early 14th century, on an island. At the end of the 15th century, it becomes the property of the religious Prébendés of La Réole. Of rectangular plan approximately 15 m by 12 m, it is flanked by watch-towers of circular section, except that of the south-east corner which presents cut angles to the exterior; all possess cross-arrow loopholes. Comparable to the fortified manor houses of the south west, this flour mill was equipped with three horizontal water wheels which drove the millstones (two pairs of millstones are still in place). Called a beating mill in the 17th century, it must have also served as a fulling mill. The interior layout was substantially altered in the 19th century. Activity ceased around 1925-1930. Currently, above the old lock, a metal footbridge links the first floor to the left bank of the river.
