Dans l'ancien château du 15e siècle, dont il subsiste deux tours d'enceinte, naquit en 1687 Antoine d'Aydie qui, familier de la duchesse du Maine, ourdit un complot avec l'ambassadeur d'Espagne pour faire emprisonner Philippe d'Orléans et le remplacer par Philippe V d'Espagne. Le complot fut découvert mais Antoine d'Aydie eut le temps de gagner l'Espagne où, en reconnaissance, Philippe V le nomma vice-roi de Castille. Amnistié, il revint vers 1730 et construisit le château actuel.

History
In the old 15th-century castle, of which two enclosure towers survive, was born in 1687 Antoine d'Aydie who, familiar to the Duchess of Maine, plotted with the Spanish ambassador to have Philippe d'Orléans imprisoned and replace him with Philippe V of Spain. The plot was discovered but Antoine d'Aydie had time to flee to Spain where, in recognition, Philippe V appointed him viceroy of Castille. Amnestied, he returned around 1730 and constructed the present castle.
