L'hôtel a remplacé, au 18e siècle, un logis reconstruit à la Renaissance par la famille de Meredieu dont les portraits et les armes du constructeur figurent dans les cartouches du plafond de l'escalier. Ce même logis Renaissance avait pris la place d'un autre qui existait au 14e siècle. Suivant la tradition périgourdine, une petite cour devait précéder l'entrée du logis. Le nouveau bâtiment a englobé cette cour en portant sa façade et son entrée directement sur la rue. Cette disposition a nécessité l'établissement d'un long couloir pour atteindre l'escalier. La face sud conserve, sur une partie, la trace de la construction primitive du 14e siècle sous forme d'une large porte en tiers-point à grands claveaux. La façade sur jardin est marquée par une légère avancée et comporte, à son angle sud-est, une petite tourelle polygonale tronquée. Le plafond du palier du premier étage est seul décoré de motifs sculptés. Ce plafond est divisé en trois caissons principaux subdivisés en plusieurs compartiments. Les sculptures représentent Adam et Eve, Eve prenant la pomme, l'Annonciation, la salamandre de François Ier...

The hotel replaced, in the 18th century, a dwelling rebuilt in the Renaissance by the family of Meredieu whose portraits and the arms of the builder appear in the cartouches of the ceiling of the staircase.
