L'ancien repaire noble appartenait au 12e siècle à la bastide de Beaumont. Au 14e siècle, c'est une châtellenie tenue par une branche des Biron. Juché sur le bord du plateau dont il s'isolait par une profonde saignée dans le sol, il se composait de deux enceintes séparées par une douve que dominait un gros donjon carré crénelé du 12e siècle. Les courtines s'appuyaient sur des tours rondes.

History
The former noble seat belonged in the 12th century to the bastide of Beaumont. In the 14th century, it is a castellany held by a branch of the Biron family. Perched on the edge of the plateau from which it was isolated by a deep cut in the ground, it consisted of two enclosures separated by a moat dominated by a large crenellated square keep of the 12th century. The curtain walls were supported on round towers.
