Historique
Les minerais du Périgord sont connus depuis l'Antiquité. Dans la seconde moitié du 16e siècle, la forge de Mavaleix fournissait du fer pour la fabrication des canons et des bombes. Durant la Révolution, elle est confisquée et vendue par la Convention. A la fin du Premier Empire, la prospérité des forges du Périgord va décroissant. Celle de Mavaleix cesse son activité en 1860. L'habitation comporte deux corps de logis en retour d'équerre, avec un étage sur rez-de-chaussée. Le logis le plus long devait abriter le personnel et présente, sur sa façade principale, une galerie en bois courant tout le long du bâtiment. Cette galerie dessert toutes les pièces de l'étage et est supportée en encorbellement par des poteaux de bois appliqués contre le mur. Elle est couverte par l'avancée du toit. Les logements, au nombre de dix, se partagent cinq en rez-de-chaussée, cinq à l'étage. Le logis en retour devait être celui du régisseur.

History
The ores of Périgord have been known since Antiquity. In the second half of the 16th century, the forge of Mavaleix supplied iron for the manufacture of cannons and bombs.
