Historique
Tuilerie-briqueterie construite courant 19e siècle et reconstruite vers 1912 après un incendie. Elle est réquisitionnée puis transformée en camp d'internement de 1939 à 1943. En 1939-1940, d'abord comme camp de regroupement pour anti-nazis allemands et autrichiens dont les peintres Hans Bellmer et Max Ernst (auteurs des peintures murales du réfectoire, transformé en atelier de menuiserie lorque la tuilerie reprend ses activités après la guerre). De fin 1940 à mars 1943, elle sert de camp d'internement pour les juifs raflés à Marseille : camp de départ vers la déportation. L'usine est rouverte après la guerre et fusionne en 1973 avec les Tuileries de Marseille et de la Méditerranée. Elle est actuellement désaffectée. Un comité du site Mémorial des Milles a été créé en 1991 et les peintures murales ont été restaurées en 1994.

History
Tile and brick works built during the 19th century and rebuilt around 1912 after a fire. It is requisitioned and then transformed into an internment camp from 1939 to 1943. In 1939-1940, first as a regrouping camp for German and Austrian anti-Nazis including painters Hans Bellmer and Max Ernst (authors of the mural paintings of the refectory, transformed into a carpentry workshop when the tile works resumed its activities after the war). From late 1940 to March 1943, it served as an internment camp for Jews rounded up in Marseille: camp of departure for deportation. The factory is reopened after the war and merges in 1973 with the Tileries of Marseille and the Mediterranean. It is currently disused. A committee for the Milles Memorial site was created in 1991 and the mural paintings were restored in 1994.
