Historique
La maison Antoine Chiris, fondée en 1768, occupe en 1868 l'ancien couvent des Capucins dans une cité tannante progressivement devenue la cité des parfums. Modernisée peu à peu, l'usine est agrandie d'un atelier des parfums naturels, inauguré en 1899 : c'est une vaste halle rectangulaire de 4 582 m2, baptisée la Mosquée et percée de baies mauresques permettant la ventilation intérieure de produits inflammables ou toxiques (éther de pétrole, benzène, alcools méthyliques et éthyliques, acétones). L'extraction par distillation et par les techniques d'enfleurage s'est poursuivie dans les parties anciennes. Un atelier est encore traversé par les serpentins des anciens alambics. L'usine a été acquise par la ville après sa fermeture. Le bâtiment des anciens distilloirs avec le hangar aux aériens, construit aux environs de 1900, a été démoli en 1999 (permis de démolir du 29 avril 1999) pour permettre la construction du nouveau palais de justice.

History
The Antoine Chiris company, founded in 1768, occupied in 1868 the former convent of the Capuchins in a tanning town that progressively became the city of perfumes. Gradually modernised, the factory was enlarged with a workshop for natural perfumes, inaugurated in 1899: it is a vast rectangular hall of 4,582 m2, named the Mosque and pierced with Moorish openings allowing internal ventilation of flammable or toxic products (petroleum ether, benzene, methyl and ethyl alcohols, acetones). Extraction by distillation and by enfleurage techniques continued in the older parts. One workshop is still traversed by the coils of the old stills. The factory was acquired by the town after its closure. The building of the old distilleries with the aerial storage shed, built around 1900, was demolished in 1999 (demolition permit of 29 April 1999) to allow the construction of the new courthouse.
