"Le château est construit dans la deuxième moitié du 18e siècle pour le comte Charles-Louis de Balincourt par l'architecte Denis-Claude Liégeon, auteur également du parc et des dépendances. Le domaine est acheté en 1908 par Léopold II, roi des Belges, qui fait faire de nombreuses modifications, aboutissant aujourd'hui à une demeure composite avec des éléments des 18e et 20e siècles étroitement imbriqués. Les travaux du début du 20e siècle sont réalisés par Raffaële Maïnella, aquarelliste, décorateur, architecte et paysagiste d'origine vénitienne. Outre la recomposition des décors intérieurs, l'artiste intervient sur le parc : l'orangerie et la chapelle sont réaménagées et plusieurs fabriques pittoresques ajoutées. Les aménagements hydrauliques sont également dus à Mainella, dit parfois le "Mage des Jardins"

History
The château is built in the second half of the 18th century for count Charles-Louis de Balincourt by architect Denis-Claude Liégeon, also author of the park and outbuildings. The estate is purchased in 1908 by Leopold II, King of the Belgians, who has numerous modifications carried out, resulting today in a composite dwelling with elements from the 18th and 20th centuries closely interwoven. The works from the early 20th century are carried out by Raffaële Maïnella, watercolourist, decorator, architect and landscape designer of Venetian origin. Besides the recomposition of interior decorations, the artist intervenes on the park: the orangery and chapel are remodelled and several picturesque follies added. The hydraulic arrangements are also due to Mainella, sometimes called the 'Wizard of Gardens'.
