Historique
Premier manoir construit par Philippe-Auguste. Donjon construit par Charles V entre 1364 et 1370, complété entre 1373 et 1380 par l'élévation de la grande enceinte. Fondation de la Sainte-Chapelle en 1379 (travaux achevés par Henri II en 1552). Château réorganisé au 17e siècle par Louis Le Vau : basse-cour avec les communs, cour du donjon, cour du "château neuf" en bordure de laquelle il construit le pavillon du Roi et le pavillon de la Reine. Aménagé en place militaire au 19e siècle, restauré après la seconde guerre mondiale, il abrite les services historiques de l'armée depuis 1948.

History
First manor built by Philippe-Auguste. Keep built by Charles V between 1364 and 1370, completed between 1373 and 1380 by the raising of the great curtain wall. Foundation of the Sainte-Chapelle in 1379 (work completed by Henri II in 1552). Castle reorganised in the 17th century by Louis Le Vau: lower court with the outbuildings, keep court, "new castle" court along the edge of which he built the King's pavilion and the Queen's pavilion. Arranged as a military post in the 19th century, restored after the Second World War, it has housed the historical services of the army since 1948.
