The abbey was rebuilt in the 16th century. The claustral buildings comprised only two wings (east wing and south wing). At the Revolution, these buildings were preserved to house the artillery school, from 1791 to 1806, then to accommodate the dwellings of the teachers of the Imperial School of Arts and Crafts. From 1861 onwards, the buildings were used to house the boys' normal school. The large wing on the square was erected on this occasion and the wing in return of square will be added in 1876. These works were inspired by the Renaissance style of the old building.
