Le site du château était occupé au 16e siècle par un quartier dit "du moulin", entouré d'une fortification, et surplombé par une haute terrasse destinée aux pièces d'artilleries. La construction du château bas, au début du 17e siècle, détruit ce quartier dont il ne reste plus qu'une maison. A cette époque, est aussi élevé un bastion de Turenne qui englobe le "fer à cheval" et se termine par l'imposante traverse qui clôt la cour à l'arrière du château. Le bastion a été détruit à la fin du 19e siècle.

History
The castle site was occupied in the 16th century by a quarter known as "du moulin", surrounded by a fortification, and overlooked by a high terrace intended for artillery pieces. The construction of the lower castle, at the beginning of the 17th century, destroyed this quarter of which only one house remains. At this time, a bastion of Turenne was also erected which encompasses the "horseshoe" and ends with the imposing traverse that closes the courtyard at the rear of the castle. The bastion was destroyed at the end of the 19th century.
