Historique
Croix de chemin dressée sur la route menant à Arrelles. Un dessin du milieu du 19e siècle permet de connaître les inscriptions aujourd'hui effacées. La hauteur totale de l'ouvrage est de 5,42 mètres. Le fût présente deux parties d'égale hauteur. La partie basse est de section carrée avec un décor de colonnette à chaque angle, travaillé avec un motif torsadé sur le tiers supérieur. La partie supérieure est polygonale, à faces concaves. Un motif décoratif établit la jonction entre la partie polygonale et les parties de section carrée. La croix est ornée de feuillages. Au-dessus, sont sculptés une Vierge à l'Enfant d'un côté et, de l'autre, un Christ en croix. Un texte pouvant se traduire par " ici espèrent tes fils fidèles " se réfère à la statue de la Vierge placée au-dessus. Le donateur est représenté agenouillé sur la partie nord de la croix, la tête levée vers le Christ. Sur le socle de la sculpture du donateur se voit le blason de la mort, représentée par un crâne. Cette représentation, thème traditionnel de la fin du Moyen Age, est issue de la gravure de Dürer, de 1505. Sous la figure du donateur se trouve un texte en lettres gothiques. Une autre inscription est gravée de part et d'autre de l'écusson portant la tête de mort. La croix a été donnée par le curé de Polisy, au début du 16e siècle, qui en a fait don en pensant à sa mort et à son salut dans l'au-delà.

History
Wayside cross erected on the road leading to Arrelles. A drawing from the mid-19th century makes it possible to know the inscriptions now effaced. The total height of the structure is 5.42 metres. The shaft presents two parts of equal height. The lower part is of square section with a decoration of small column at each angle, worked with a twisted motif on the upper third. The upper part is polygonal, with concave faces. A decorative motif establishes the connection between the polygonal part and the square-section parts. The cross is adorned with foliage. Above it are sculpted a Virgin and Child on one side and, on the other, a Christ on the cross. A text that can be translated as "here thy faithful sons hope" refers to the statue of the Virgin placed above. The donor is represented kneeling on the north part of the cross, head raised towards Christ. On the base of the sculpture of the donor is seen the emblem of death, represented by a skull. This representation, a traditional theme of the end of the Middle Ages, is derived from the engraving by Dürer, from 1505. Below the figure of the donor is found a text in Gothic letters. Another inscription is engraved on either side of the escutcheon bearing the death's head. The cross was given by the curate of Polisy, at the beginning of the 16th century, who made a gift of it thinking of his death and his salvation in the hereafter.
