The Finnish Heritage Agency's description

Leineperin eli Fredriksforsin ruukinmiljöö on yhtenäisenä säilynyt alue, johon sisältyvät lähes kaikki suomalaisille rautaruukeille tyypilliset rakennukset ja rakenteet. Teollisuushistoriallisesti Leineperi on yksi maamme mielenkiintoisimmista ruukinalueista monipuolisen rakennuskantansa ansiosta ja restauroituna se antaa selkeän kuvan ruukkien historiallisesta ympäristöstä.

Ruukinalueelle johtaa lännestä peltoaukean yli puukujanne. Ruukinalueen rungon muodostaa Kokemäenjokeen laskeva Kullaanjoki ja siinä oleva koski patoineen. Padon alapuolella sijaitsevat keskeiset tuotantorakennukset, masuuni ja sahaksi muutettu kankirautavasarapaja. Pajan punatiilinen osa on 1860-luvulta, kuonatiilinen laajennusosa vuodelta 1883.

Kaikki rakennukset on tehty ilmeisesti 1860-luvun jälkipuoliskolla. Puiston ympäröimä päärakennus on tyyliltään uusklassistinen. Työväenasuntojen tuntumassa on samoin 1860-luvulta peräisin oleva tiilinavetta ja samanikäinen suuri savesta ja tiilestä tehty leivintupa, ns. Savipakari.

Fredriksforsin muista talousrakennuksista on kulttuurihistoriallisesti merkittävin masuunin vieressä sijaitseva kolmikerroksinen tiilinen viljamakasiini, jonka on 1824 suunnitellut Intendentinkonttorissa arkkitehti C. Bassi. Ruukinpadon yhteydessä oleva kolmiaukkoinen kiviholvisilta on 1860-luvulta. Pohjoisrannalla sillan kupeessa oleva ns. Pehtorin talo on rakennettu aikaisemmin kaksikerroksisen konttorirakennuksen paikalle noin 1915. Vasarapajan vieressä oleva hirsinen rauta-aitta lienee 1800-luvun keskivaiheilta. Kansakoulu on valmistunut 1888.

Ruukin alueen restaurointitöiden yhteydessä sahan aikaiset rakenteet on säilytetty. Sahassa on säilynyt arvokas laitteisto.

Majuri Berndt Johan Hastfer perusti Fredriksforsin ruukin Leinebergin tilan maille 1771. Samana vuonna valmistui kaksi erillistä vasarapajaa noin puolen kilometrin etäisyydelle toisistaan. Hastfer sai 1781 luvan perustaa toisen ruukin Fredriksforsista noin 2,5 km länteen saman joen alajuoksulle.

1781 perustettu Leineperin eli Fredriksforsin ruukki rakennutti oman sahansa 1782.

Ruukinkartano maaomaisuuksineen siirtyi 1877 Antti Ahlströmille, jonka toimesta nippuvasarapaja muutettiin vesisahaksi 1880. Sen toiminta vientisahana päättyi 1892. Raudanvalmistus päättyi 1908. Entinen kankivasarapaja toimi kotitarvesahana 1920-1962.

The Leineperi, or Fredriksfors, ironworks environment is a well-preserved, cohesive area that includes almost all the buildings and structures typical of Finnish ironworks. From the perspective of industrial history, Leineperi is one of the most interesting ironworks areas in our country thanks to its varied building stock, and when restored it gives a clear picture of the historical environment of ironworks.

A tree-lined avenue leads to the ironworks area from the west, across an open field. The backbone of the ironworks area is formed by the Kullaanjoki, which flows into the Kokemäenjoki, and the rapids with their dam there. Below the dam are the central production buildings: the blast furnace and the bar-iron hammer forge converted into a sawmill. The red-brick part of the forge dates from the 1860s, and the slag-brick extension dates from 1883. The Leineperi blast furnace is one of four blast furnaces preserved intact in our country, and it is the only representative of its type. The lower part of the blast furnace, built in multahirsi construction, was built in 1826 and was raised in 1861.

The ironworks manor and the smiths' dwellings are grouped in two rows on either side of the straight ruukinkatu, on the southern bank of the Kullaanjoki. All the buildings were apparently built in the second half of the 1860s. The main building, surrounded by a park, is neoclassical in style. Near the workers' dwellings there is likewise a brick cowshed dating from the 1860s, and a large bakehouse of clay and brick of the same age, the so-called Savipakari.

Of the other farm buildings at Fredriksfors, the most significant in terms of cultural history is the three-storey brick grain storehouse next to the blast furnace, designed in 1824 by architect C. Bassi in the Intendentinkonttori. The three-arched stone-vaulted bridge connected to the ironworks dam dates from the 1860s. On the northern bank, beside the bridge, the so-called Pehtorin talo was built around 1915 on the site of an earlier two-storey office building. The log-built iron granary storehouse beside the hammer forge probably dates from the mid-19th century. The elementary school was completed in 1888.

As a monument to Leineperi's many-phased sawmilling history stands the bar-iron hammer forge, which was converted into a sawmill in 1920. The interlayer floor supported on tree-root props, the turbine chamber with its water channels, the roof lantern and the gable windows all date from that period. During the restoration work on the ironworks area, the structures from the sawmill period were preserved. The sawmill has preserved valuable equipment. The layered industrial history and the preservation of the equipment also make the building a sawmill monument.

Major Berndt Johan Hastfer founded the Fredriksfors ironworks on the lands of the Leineberg estate in 1771. In the same year two separate hammer forges were completed, about half a kilometre apart from each other. In 1781 Hastfer received permission to establish a second ironworks about 2,5 km west of Fredriksfors, on the lower reaches of the same river. The new ironworks established at Solakoski was called Fredriksberg and Solla. No buildings from the ironworks period remain in the Fredriksberg area.

Leineperi is known as a sawmill site as early as the 1630s, when Anola manor used a sawmill on its rapids. In the 18th century a peasant domestic sawmill and mill operated at Sahakoski. The Leineperi, or Fredriksfors, ironworks, founded in 1781, built its own sawmill in 1782.

The ironworks manor with its landed property passed in 1877 to Antti Ahlström, under whose direction the nippuvasarapaja was converted into a water sawmill in 1880. Its operation as an export sawmill ended in 1892. Iron production ended in 1908. The former kankivasarapaja operated as a domestic sawmill in 1920-1962. The forge was restored to the phase depicting its use as a sawmill. The Leineperi school was built by Ahlström.

The buildings of the ironworks core area were restored in the 1990s, after which the area has been used for tourism.
