Kuvaus
Velkuan kirkkomaisema muodostuu hyvin säilyneestä sisäsaariston kirkonkylästä, johon lounaissuomalaisen 1700-luvun puisen pitkäkirkon lisäksi kuuluu saaren suojaisiin painanteisiin asettunutta kirkonkylän asutusta pienialaisine peltoineen.
Velkuan Pyhälle Henrikille omistettu kirkko on seurakunnan ensimmäinen. Kirkko on rakennettu Palvan salmen rannalle ja suojaisesta satamasta on maisemallinen yhteys kirkolle. Kirkon satulakattoiseen runkohuoneeseen liittyy kylkiäisinä asehuone ja sakaristo. Kirkkosalia kattaa puinen tynnyriholvi. Pieniruutuisten, tasapäätteisten ikkunoiden nykyasu on 1880-luvulta. Alttariseinällä on kookas ikkuna ja Taivaaseenastumista kuvaava, piispa J. Gadolinin 1796 lahjoittama alttaritaulu.
Kirkkoa ja erillistä kaksinivelistä kellotapulia vuodelta 1793 ympäröi vanha hautausmaa. Suomen sodan aikaisen Palvan meritaistelun 18.9.1808 muistomerkki on sijoitettu kirkon lähelle.
Velkuan kirkkoherranpappilan päärakennus 1800-luvun jälkipuolelta sijaitsee kirkon lähettyvillä saaren itäpuolella. Lisäksi mm. Riihimäen ja Pietilän tiloilla on rakennuskantaa 1800-luvulta. Satamanlahdelta nousevan mäen rinteessä on kylän koulu.
Historia
Taivassaloon kuuluneessa Velkuassa eli Palvassa oli kolme taloa 1560-luvulla. Velkua perustettiin saarnahuonekunnaksi 1793 Palva-nimisenä ja seurakunnan kirkko valmistui samana vuonna. Kirkkoa korjattiin arkkitehti J.A. Anderssonin johdolla 1881-1883 ja 1897-1901.
Itsenäiseksi seurakunnaksi Velkua erotettiin 1913. Vuonna 1962 Velkua liitettiin seurakunnallisesti Naantaliin. Kuntaliitos tehtiin 2009.

Description
The church landscape of Velkua consists of a well-preserved inner archipelago church village which, in addition to the southwest Finnish wooden long church of the 18th century, includes village settlement located in the sheltered hollows of the island, together with its small-scale fields.
The church of Velkua, dedicated to Pyhä Henrik, is the first church of the parish. The church was built on the shore of the Palva strait, and a sheltered harbour has a scenic connection to the church. The saddle-roofed main body of the church has an armoury and a vestry attached as side annexes. The church hall is covered by a wooden barrel vault. The present appearance of the small-paned, flat-headed windows dates from the 1880s. The altar wall has a large window and an altarpiece depicting the Ascension, donated by Bishop J. Gadolin in 1796.
The church and the separate two-tier bell tower of 1793 are surrounded by an old cemetery. A memorial to the naval battle of Palva of 18 September 1808, during the Finnish War, has been placed near the church.
The main building of the parsonage from the second half of the 19th century is located near the church, on the east side of the island. In addition, there is building stock from the 19th century on the Riihimäki and Pietilä farms, among others. On the slope of the hill rising from Satamanlahti bay is the village school.
History
Velkua, or Palva, which belonged to Taivassalo, had three farms in the 1560s. Velkua was established as a saarnahuonekunta in 1793 under the name Palva, and the parish church was completed in the same year. The church was repaired under the direction of architect J.A. Andersson in 1881-1883 and 1897-1901.
Velkua was separated as an independent parish in 1913. In 1962 Velkua was merged with Naantali for parish purposes. The municipal merger took place in 2009.
