The Finnish Heritage Agency's description

Oripään erivartinen ristikirkko vuodelta 1821 kuuluu Intendentinkonttorin 1800-luvulla suunnittelemien ristikirkkojen joukkoon. Verrattain vaatimaton kirkko on säilynyt rakentamisaikansa uusklassistisessa asussa.

Oripää sijaitsee keskiaikaisperäisten Varkaantien ja Huovintien yhtymäkohdassa. Nykyinen kirkko sijaitsee hautausmaan ja metsän ympäröimänä, matkan päässä kirkonkylän taajamasta. Puinen ristikirkko on muodoltaan erivartinen päätytornillinen ristikirkko ja järjestyksessään Oripään kolmas. Pääsisäänkäynnin yllä kohoava torni on kolminivelinen ja pohjaltaan neliömäinen. Runkohuoneen ikkunat ovat pyörökaariset. Kirkkosalia kattaa tynnyriholvaus ja nurkkia sitoo kaksi poikittaista sidehirttä. Saarnastuoli vuodelta 1675 on kuulunut edelliseen kirkkoon. Kirkkosalin asuun on tehty muutoksia arkkitehti Ilmari Launiksen johdolla 1928 sekä 1962, jolloin palautettiin alkuperäistä sisäväritystä. Vanhin kirkonkello on vuodelta 1750. Kirkkomaata reunustaa kiviaita ja sinne kuljetaan hirsisen pyramidikattoisen porttihuoneen kautta, joka on mahdollisesti kirkon tavoin 1820-luvulta.

Oripää kuului Pöytyän seurakuntaan vuodesta 1778 vuoteen 1901, jolloin se erotettiin omaksi seurakunnaksi. Nykyinen kirkko rakennettiin 1821. Lindquistin johdolla 1962.

The Oripää cross-plan church with unequal arms, dating from 1821, belongs to the group of cross-plan churches designed by the Intendentinkonttori in the 19th century. The comparatively modest church has survived in the neoclassical form of its construction period.

Oripää lies at the junction of the medieval-origin Varkaantie and Huovintie roads. The present church stands surrounded by a cemetery and forest, at a distance from the built-up area of the church village. The wooden church is a cross-plan church with unequal arms and an end tower, and it is the third church in Oripää. The tower rising above the main entrance has three stages and is square in plan. The windows of the nave are round-arched. The church hall is covered by a barrel vault, and two transverse tie beams bind the corners. The pulpit of 1675 belonged to the previous church. Alterations to the church hall were made under the direction of architect Ilmari Launis in 1928 and in 1962, when the original interior colour scheme was restored. The oldest church bell dates from 1750. The churchyard is bordered by a stone wall and reached through a log-built gatehouse with a pyramid roof, which, like the church, possibly dates from the 1820s.

Oripää belonged to the parish of Pöytyä from 1778 to 1901, when it was separated as a parish in its own right. The present church was built in 1821. The plans had been drawn up at the Intendentinkonttori in 1816 under the direction of architect Charles Bassi. The previous church, which stood on the so-called Kylämäki hill, was demolished when the new one was completed, but its cemetery was still used in the 1820s. It was decided to establish a cemetery around the new church in 1825. The church was repaired in 1851, under the direction of architect Ilmari Launis in 1928, and under conservator Th. Lindquist in 1962.
