Kuvaus
Erkylän kartano puistoineen on yksi 1800-luvun puolivälin merkittävimmistä kartanoarkkitehtuurin edustajista maassamme.
Erkylän kartanon päärakennus piharakennuksineen sijaitsee viljelysmaisemasta kohoavalla, reheviä lehtipuita kasvavalla kumpareella. Kartanon Erkylänjärveä kohti laskeva puisto ja ympäröivät pellot muodostavat laajan, yhtenäisen maiseman kartanon ympärille. Kartanon pihaan johtaa vanha puukuja. Kartanon puistossa on muistokivellä varustettu neljän saksalaissotilaan hauta.
Kartanon kaksikerroksinen, hyvin vaaleaksi rapattu päärakennus on arkkitehti A.F. Granstedtin 1840-luvulla suunnittelema. Päärakennuksen arkkitehtuurille on luonteenomaista tuona aikana suositut uudet elementit kuten suuret pyörökaari-ikkunat, vahvasti ulkonevat risaliitit ja kevyt, konsolien varaan rakentuva räystäs.
Kartanon päärakennuksen eteläpuolella on talouspiha, jossa on työväen asuinrakennus 1840-luvulta ja 1850 rakennettu talli. Viljelyksille johtavan tien varrella on niin ikään A.F. Granstedtin suunnittelemia, uusgoottilaisia piirteitä omaavia talousrakennuksia, joista merkittävin on entinen viljamakasiini. Pohjoisrannalla oleva kivinavetta on rakennettu 1845. Kartanomiljööseen kuuluu myös järven toisella puolella oleva Hautaniemi, jossa on paroni Carl Munckin hauta. Järven etelärannalla on alustalaisten lapsia varten 1840-luvulla rakennettu Eskon koulu ja kartanon entinen torppa, Saarentausta.
Historia
Erkylän kartanon kantatilana pidetään Apolan ratsutilaa, jonka omistajat ovat tiedossa 1540-luvulta alkaen. Suurtilaksi Erkylän Apola kehittyi 1700-luvun loppupuolella.
Monista omistajasuvuista ja omistajista kartanon nykyisen rakennuskannan kannalta merkittävin on kenraali, Helsingin yliopiston sijaiskansleri, Johan Reinhold Munck (1795-1865), joka rakennutti nykyisen päärakennuksen. Sen suunnitteluvaiheeseen liittyy kaksi arkkitehtinimeä. Ensimmäisen suunnitelman teki 1845 A.F. Granstedt samanaikaisesti goottilaiskoristeisen tallirakennuksen kanssa. Arkkitehti Robert von Kraemer teki klassillisemman ehdotuksensa 1846. Lopullinen, rakennuttajan 1846 hyväksymä suunnitelma, joka tietyin piirtein nojaa Kraemerin esittämään volyymiin, on A.F. Granstedtin. Granstedt myös valvoi rakennuksen yksityiskohtien toteuttamista. Viljamakasiini valmistui 1850.

Description
Erkylä manor and its park is one of the most significant examples of mid-19th century manor architecture in Finland.
The main building of Erkylä manor, together with its courtyard buildings, stands on a knoll rising from the cultivated landscape and overgrown with lush deciduous trees. The park, which slopes down towards Erkylänjärvi, and the surrounding fields form a broad, unified landscape around the manor. An old tree-lined avenue leads to the manor yard. In the manor park there is a grave of four German soldiers, marked with a memorial stone.
The manor's two-storey main building, plastered in a very pale colour, was designed by architect A.F. Granstedt in the 1840s. The architecture of the main building is characterised by new elements that were popular at the time, such as large round-arched windows, strongly projecting risalits and light eaves resting on brackets.
To the south of the manor's main building is a service yard, which contains a workers' dwelling from the 1840s and a stable built in 1850. Along the road leading to the fields are outbuildings, also designed by A.F. Granstedt and with neo-Gothic features, the most notable of which is the former grain storehouse. The stone cowshed on the northern shore was built in 1845. The manor setting also includes Hautaniemi, on the other side of the lake, where Baron Carl Munck's grave is located. On the southern shore of the lake are Eskon koulu, a school built in the 1840s for the children of subtenants, and the former croft of the manor, Saarentausta.
History
The base holding of Erkylä manor is considered to be the Apola ratsutila, whose owners are known from the 1540s onward. Apola in Erkylä developed into a large estate at the end of the 18th century.
Of the owning families and owners, the most significant for the manor's present building stock was General Johan Reinhold Munck (1795-1865), deputy chancellor of Helsingin yliopisto, who had the present main building constructed. Two architects' names are associated with its design phase. A.F. Granstedt produced the first plan in 1845, at the same time as the Gothic-decorated stable building. The architect Robert von Kraemer made his more classical proposal in 1846. The final plan, approved by the client in 1846, which in certain respects follows the volume proposed by Kraemer, is by A.F. Granstedt. Granstedt also supervised the execution of the building's details. The grain storehouse was completed in 1850.
The extensive English park surrounding the main building was planted in the 1850s. A battle between German troops and the Reds took place at Erkylä on 21.4.1918, in which four German soldiers fell. They were buried in the manor park.
The owner of the manor had the Swiss-style Esko school built in 1857 on the shore of Erkylänjärvi lake, for the children of his cottars, and maintained teaching there for decades, at the first folk school in Finland.
The long, farmhouse-type main building of Saarentausta, the former croft of the manor on the southern shore of Erkylänjärvi lake, was built in its oldest parts in 1789.
