The Finnish Heritage Agency's description

Orimattilan kirkonmäki, kirkko, seurakuntakoti, pappila, hautausmaa, pitäjänmakasiini sekä raitin asuin- ja liikerakennukset muodostavat kokonaisuuden, jossa perinteisen 1900-luvun alkupuolen kirkonkylän ilme on hyvin säilynyt.

Orimattilan kirkonkylä sijaitsee Viljamaan kylässä. Kirkonkylän raitin muodostavan Erkontien varrella oleva ristikirkko on rakennettu 1862-1866 lääninarkkitehti Jean Wiikin ja maisteri Nestor Tallgrenin laatiman suunnitelman mukaan. Kivestä rakennettuun kirkkoon liittyvä avolyhtyinen kellotorni on korotettu nykyasuun 1930-luvulla. Kirkkoon liittyy Erkontien molemmille puolille sijoittuva hautausmaa. Kirkkomiljööseen kuuluva tiilinen lainamakasiini on rakennettu 1896.

Kivestä rakennetun ristikirkon vanhin osa on 1851 valmistunut kellotapuli, josta tehtiin kirkon rakentamisen yhteydessä kirkkoon liittyvä kellotorni. Kirkon ulkoasua muutti arkkitehti Rafael Blomstedtin suunnittelema ja 1932 valmistunut korjaustyö, jossa mm. kellotorni korotettiin nykyiseen klassistiseen muotoonsa ja asuunsa. Kirkon ympärillä on vanha kirkkomaa, jota laajennettiin 1907 Erkontien pohjoispuolelle.

The Orimattila church hill, church, parish hall, parsonage, cemetery, parish storehouse, and the residential and commercial buildings along the main street form an ensemble in which the traditional appearance of the early 20th-century church village has been well preserved.

The Orimattila church village is located in the village of Viljamaa. The cruciform church on Erkontie, which forms the main street of the church village, was built in 1862-1866 to a plan drawn up by provincial architect Jean Wiik and Master of Arts Nestor Tallgren. The open-lantern belfry attached to the stone church was raised to its present form in the 1930s. The church is linked to a cemetery on both sides of Erkontie. The brick loan storehouse belonging to the church setting was built in 1896. Along the main street is the parish hall designed by architect Ilmari Launis and completed in 1929.

West of the church, in the middle of a park, stands the neo-Renaissance vicar's parsonage, designed by the architectural office Kiseleff ja Heikel and built in 1884. South-west of the church, along Erkontie, are wooden commercial and residential buildings, most of which were built at the end of the 19th century.

The village of Viljamaa, which forms the church village and the centre of the municipality, is first mentioned in the land register of 1539. Orimattila was initially a chapel of Hollola, which became an independent parish in 1636.

The present church, the parish's fourth, was completed in 1866. The oldest part of the stone cruciform church is the bell tower completed in 1851, which during the building of the church was converted into a belfry attached to it. The exterior of the church was altered by a restoration work designed by architect Rafael Blomstedt and completed in 1932, in which, among other things, the belfry was raised to its present classicist form and appearance. Around the church is the old churchyard, which was extended to the north side of Erkontie in 1907.
