The Finnish Heritage Agency's description

Kytäjän kirkko on viehättävä esimerkki arkkitehtuuriltaan korkeatasoisesta paikallisen yhteisön rakennuttamasta kyläkirkosta.

Kirkkosaliin astutaan tynnyriholvatun eteisen kautta. Pohjoisseinässä on pyöröikkunat seinän yläosassa, eteläpuolelle valoa antava korkeat pyörökaariset ikkunat. Kirkkosalissa ja eteisessä on kalanruotokuvioinen tiililattia. Keskikäytävä on tilaan nähden epäsymmetrinen, mikä johtuu kuoriosan pohjoissivuun sijoitetusta sakaristosta.

Kytäjä church is an attractive example of a village church of high architectural quality, built by the local community. The church was designed by architect Väinö Vähäkallio, who was master of the Kytäjä manor during its construction, and it is situated along the old church road leading to Nurmijärvi.

The church, rendered in light colour, has a long-eaved low tiled roof. Attached to its west end is a low wing section containing a parish hall, and a narrow bell tower. The nave is entered through a barrel-vaulted vestibule. The north wall has round windows in its upper part, and on the south side there are tall round-arched windows giving light. The nave and vestibule have a herringbone-pattern brick floor. The central aisle is asymmetrical in relation to the space, which is due to the sacristy located on the north side of the chancel.

In the village of Kytöjärvi, a church of its own was already being planned in the 19th century, and a prayer house association was established for Kytäjä in 1925. The aim of having a church of their own was realised in 1936, when architect Väinö Vähäkallio and Mrs Astrid Vähäkallio donated land belonging to the Kytäjä manor for the church and cemetery of the area, as well as the church drawings and a large quantity of building materials.

The first service in the church was held at Christmas 1938. Originally the church had an open view across the lake to Kytäjä manor, on the other side of the lake. The church was restored to designs by architect Sari Viertiö in 1998.
