The Finnish Heritage Agency's description

Syrjäntaustan kylässä on hyvin säilynyt vanha, isojakoa edeltäneen tiiviin kylämaisema. Tiivistä ryhmäkylää ympäröi selkeästi metsiin ja mäkiin rajautuva peltomaisema.

Kylän keskipiste on vanha tienristeys, Raittinristi. Kylän rakennuskanta mm. hyvin säilyneet Seppälän ja Papulan pihapiirit, on keskittynyt maantien ja paikallistien risteykseen. Taloista Soilan tilakeskus on siirretty kylätontilta pellon laidalle.

Ensimmäinen maininta Syrjäntaustan kylästä on 1440-luvulta. Soilan talon päärakennus rakennettiin 1901. Syrjäntaustan koulu perustettiin 1908 ja jugendtyylinen koulurakennus valmistui 1915 arkkitehti Birger Brunilan suunnitelmin.

The village of Syrjäntausta has a well-preserved old, compact village landscape that predates the isojako. The dense group village is surrounded by a clearly defined field landscape bordered by forests and hills.

The centre of the village is an old road junction, Raittinristi. The village's building stock, including the well-preserved yard groups of Seppälä and Papula, is concentrated at the junction of the main road and the local road. Among the farmhouses, the Soila farm centre has been moved from the village site to the edge of the field.

The first mention of the village of Syrjäntausta dates from the 1440s. The main building of the Soila farm was built in 1901. Syrjäntausta school was founded in 1908, and the Jugend-style school building was completed in 1915 to designs by architect Birger Brunila.
