The Finnish Heritage Agency's description

Maisemallisesti näyttävällä paikalla sijaitseva Pohjaslahden kirkko kuvastaa 1930-luvun kirkkoarkkitehtuurin moninaisuutta.

Pohjaslahti Church, located in a scenically prominent place, reflects the diversity of church architecture of the 1930s.

The brick church is rendered on both the inside and the outside. A lower and narrower chancel adjoins the rectangular, gable-roofed nave. At one end is a tower, the width of the nave, which tapers in stages. Its various floors contain a parish hall, a gallery opening into the church hall, club rooms, and at the top the belfry.

The decorative paintings on the beams of the flat ceiling and on the pulpit of the church hall were the work of Jyväskylä decorative painter Urho Lehtinen. He also made the altarpiece depicting Jesus in Gethsemane. The large brass chandeliers hanging above the pew blocks were made by Taito Oy. The pictures and paintings in the parish hall date from the late 1970s.

Pohjaslahti parish was separated from Ruovesi in 1927. The church building was designed by Helsinki architect Kauno S. Kallio, who later became known as a prolific church architect. Construction began in autumn 1930, and the church was consecrated for use in summer 1932. The majority of the municipality of Pohjaslahti was merged with Vilppula in 1973, a part with the town of Virrat, and in 2009 with Mänttä-Vilppula.

The church was protected by a decision of the kirkkohallitus on 1.4.2003.
