The Finnish Heritage Agency's description

Katedraalimaisen komea Kanta-Loimaan kirkko Loimijoen itärannalla on kauas näkyvä kiintopiste jokilaakson tasaisella peltolakeudella. Intendentinkonttorin suunnitteleman kivikirkon kertaustyylinen nykyasu on arkkitehti Josef Stenbäckin suunnittelemasta korjauksesta 1880-1890-luvun taitteesta. Sitä vastapäätä sijaitseva Loimaan pappila sijaitsee vuosisataisella paikallaan Loimijoen varressa.

Muodoltaan erivartisessa tiilikirkossa on korkea barokkihuippuinen päätytorni sekä suuri keskikupoli. Rapattuja julkisivuja jäsentävät pilasterit. Avaran kirkkosalin korjauksessa 2000-luvun alussa väritys on palautettu arkkitehti Josef Stenbäckin aikaiseen asuun uusrenessanssityyliseksi. Kirkkotarhaa ympäröi kiviaita. Kirkon lähellä oleva entinen kaksikerroksinen makasiinirakennus vuodelta 1855 on nykyisin museona.

Loimijoen rannassa sijaitsevan kirkkoherranpappilan kaksikerroksinen uusklassistinen päärakennus on valmistunut arkkitehti Harald Smedbergin suunnittelemana 1926. Edeltänyt päärakennus on purettu samana vuonna. Pappila on sijainnut paikallaan jokivarressa viimeistään 1500-1600-luvulta lähtien.

Historialtaan keskiajalle periytyvällä Loimaan seurakunnalla on ollut useita kirkkorakennuksia. Nykyisen kirkon suunnitelmat valmistuivat 1824 ja kirkko vihittiin käyttöön 1837. Kirkko sijoitettiin uudelle paikalle pappilan itäpuolelle pari kilometriä vanhalta kirkonpaikalta pohjoiseen Loimijoen alajuoksulle. Edeltänyt kirkko siirrettiin samana vuonna Alastaroon.

Loimaan kirkko tuhoutui puuosiltaan ukkosen sytyttämässä tulipalossa elokuussa 1888.

The cathedral-like, magnificent Kanta-Loimaa church on the eastern bank of the Loimijoki is a landmark visible from afar on the flat field plain of the river valley. The present revival-style appearance of the stone church, designed by the Intendent's Office, dates from a renovation designed by architect Josef Stenbäck from the turn of the 1880s and 1890s. Opposite it, the Loimaa parsonage stands on its centuries-old site on the banks of the Loimijoki.

The brick church, which has an unequal-armed plan, has a tall tower with a baroque spire at its gable end, as well as a large central dome. The rendered facades are articulated by pilasters. In the renovation of the spacious church nave at the beginning of the 2000s, the colour scheme was restored to the neo-Renaissance style of Josef Stenbäck's period. The churchyard is enclosed by a stone wall. The former two-storey storehouse building near the church, dating from 1855, now serves as a museum.

The two-storey neoclassical main building of the vicarage parsonage on the banks of the Loimijoki was completed in 1926 to a design by architect Harald Smedberg. The earlier main building was demolished the same year. The parsonage has been on its site by the river since the 16th-17th centuries at the latest.

The Loimaa parish, whose history goes back to the Middle Ages, has had several church buildings. The plans for the present church were completed in 1824, and the church was consecrated for use in 1837. The church was placed on a new site, a couple of kilometres north of the old church site, east of the parsonage, on the lower reaches of the Loimijoki. The previous church was moved to Alastaro in the same year.

The Loimaa church was destroyed in its wooden parts by a fire started by lightning in August 1888. It was then restored according to the plans of architect Josef Stenbäck, whereby the Empire-style church was transformed into the Baroque style. The colour scheme of the nave was renewed in 1966, and in 2006-2007 the church was restored to the appearance designed by Stenbäck.
