The Finnish Heritage Agency's description

Jeskalan ortodoksikylässä sijaitseva karjalaista rakennuskulttuuria edustava pihapiiri on hyvin säilynyt harvinaisuus.

Jeskalan Ostronsaaressa sijaitseva pihapiiri on alkuperäisessä asussaan. Sen nurkkakiville perustettu, multapenkkipohjainen hirsinen päärakennus on vuodelta 1848. Perinteisillä rakennustavoilla toteutettu ja alkuperäisen asun harvinaisen hyvin säilyttänyt rakennuskanta on metsän reunustamassa, järvelle viettävässä rinteessä, jossa on myös ortodoksinen kalmisto.

Ilomantsin Ostronsaaressa mainittiin 1618 maakirjassa olevan kolme asuttua ja yksi autio talo, jotka kaikki sijaitsivat saaren pohjoispäässä vaaran etelärinteellä. Melaselänjärven ympärille ryhmittynyt ortodoksikylien verkko jakautui kahtia viime sotien rajanvedossa. Pääkylä Melaselkä jäi Neuvostoliiton puolelle, kun taas Suomen puolelle jäivät Ostronsaaren lisäksi Mutalahti ja Nehvonniemi.

Jeskalan tila Ostronsaaressa on ollut satoja vuosia Jeskasen suvun hallussa.

The courtyard in the Orthodox village of Jeskala, representing Karelian building culture, is a rare example of good preservation.

The courtyard on Ostronsaari in Jeskala is in its original form. Its main building, a log building set on corner stones with an earth-bench foundation, dates from 1848. The building stock, built with traditional methods and preserving its original appearance to a rare degree, lies on a slope facing the lake, bordered by forest, where there is also an Orthodox cemetery.

Ostronsaari in Ilomantsi was recorded in the 1618 land register as having three inhabited farms and one abandoned farm, all located at the northern end of the island on the southern slope of a vaara. The network of Orthodox villages grouped around Lake Melaselänjärvi was split in two by the border drawn after the recent wars. The main village, Melaselkä, remained on the Soviet Union side, while the Finnish side retained, in addition to Ostronsaari, Mutalahti and Nehvonniemi.

The Jeskala farm on Ostronsaari has been in the hands of the Jeskanen family for hundreds of years.
