The Finnish Heritage Agency's description

Kakonaho on Vaara-Karjalan poikkeuksellisen hyvin säilynyt kylämaisema, jonka muodostavat vapaamuotoiset pihapiirit sekä kyläkumpareelta avautuvat maisemat.

Erityisesti Aaronpihassa ja Sivolassa on harvinaisen hyvin säilyneet pihapiirit, joiden eri-ikäiset rakennukset asettuvat mäkikumpareen rinteelle. Aaronpihan päärakennus on vuodelta 1907, talousrakennukset pääosin vuodelta 1826.

Vaara-asutus yleistyi Ilomantsin seudulla 1600-1700-luvulla. Kakonaho mainittiin kylänä 1691, jolloin siellä oli kolme savua. Kakonahon maat olivat osin rälssi- ja osin kruununmaata. Kylässä käyty isojako hyväksyttiin vasta 1888.

Kakonaho is an exceptionally well-preserved village landscape of Vaara-Karelia, formed by free-form farmyards and views opening out from the village knoll.

Aaronpiha and Sivola in particular have remarkably well-preserved farmyards, whose buildings of different ages are set on the slope of a hillock. The main building of Aaronpiha dates from 1907; the outbuildings mostly date from 1826. Aaronpiha was a model farm selected by the Pohjois-Karjalan maanviljelysseura and Maataloudellinen rajaseututoiminta from 1930-1963. Aaronpiha also displays the objects of local government official Aaro Ikonen as a museum.

The vaara villages of North Karelia are one of our national landscapes.

Vaara settlement became more common in the Ilomantsi area in the 1600s-1700s. Kakonaho was mentioned as a village in 1691, when there were three savu there. Kakonaho's lands were partly rälssi and partly crown land. The isojako carried out in the village was not approved until 1888.
