The Finnish Heritage Agency's description

Totkunniemi on maisemallisesti ja rakennuskannaltaan yhtenäinen, maakunnan vanhimpiin lukeutuva kylä, jossa kylärakenteen ja tiestön sekä puukujanteiden ansiosta on säilynyt Laatokan-Karjalan piirteitä.

Totkunniemen kylä sijaitsee Pyhäjärven Taipaleenselän lounaisrannalla. Kylää halkoo vanha maantie. Kylän rakennukset, joissa on useita arvokkaita ja eheitä pihapiirejä aina 1700-luvulta alkaen, erityisesti 1800-luvulta, ovat sijoittuneet rantaselänteelle. Laatokan-Karjalan maisematyyppiin kuuluva rehevä kasvillisuus antaa kylälle poikkeuksellisen ilmeen.

Kylän neljässä tilaryhmittymässä sijaitsevat mm. Mäki-Tervolan 1700-luvulta periytyvä rakennuskanta, Muukkolan vanha kantatila, Aholan Tervolasta lohkottu maatila, Pennalan 1764 alkaen samalla suvulla ollut tila ja Hovinmäki, Totkunniemen kylän vanhin asuinpaikka.

Totkunniemi on valtakunnallisesti arvokas maisema-alue.

Totkunniemi is a landscape and building-stock unit of uniform character, one of the oldest villages in the province, where the village structure, the road network and the tree-lined avenues have preserved features of Lake Ladoga Karelia.

The village of Totkunniemi lies on the southwestern shore of the Taipaleenselkä strait of Pyhäjärvi. An old main road runs through the village. The village buildings, which include several valuable and intact yard groups dating from the 18th century onwards, and especially from the 19th century, are situated on the shoreline ridge. The lush vegetation typical of the Lake Ladoga Karelia landscape type gives the village an exceptional character.

The four farm groups of the village include, among others, the building stock of Mäki-Tervola, which dates back to the 18th century, the old original farm of Muukkola, Ahola, a farm split off from Tervola, Pennala, a holding that has remained in the same family since 1764, and Hovinmäki, the oldest settlement site of Totkunniemi village.

Totkunniemi is a landscape area of national significance.

The village of Totkunniemi, which belonged to the sphere of influence of Ladoga Karelia, received its first inhabitants in the 15th century. Settlement and cultivation spread across the shore hummocks of Pyhäjärvi, which were formed from moraine ridges, in several parts, and several talorykelmiä can be distinguished within the village.
