The Finnish Heritage Agency's description

Ruukin maatalousoppilaitos on rakennuskannaltaan yhtenäinen ja hyvin säilynyt oppilaitoskokonaisuus. Maakunnan viljelijöiden ammattitaidon kasvattamiseksi perustettu oppilaitos on osa valtion 1900-luvun maatalouden koulutusta.

Siikajoen pohjoisrannalla sijaitsevan oppilaitoksen rakennuskanta edustaa 1920-luvun klassismia. Päärakennuksen takana on kaksi talousrakennusta. Peiterimoitetut ja rakentamisajalleen tyypilliset rakennukset ovat vuosilta 1925-1927. Puistomaista pihapiiriä leimaavat kuusiaidat ja lehtikuusikko. Oppilaitoksen yhteydessä toimii opetusmaatila.

Oppilaitokseen liittyy Greuksen tilalle 1924 perustettu kasvinviljelykoeasema eli MTT:n Pohjois-Pohjanmaan tutkimusasema.

Yksityisenä maamieskouluna perustettu oppilaitos otettiin valtion hoitoon 1933. Koulun nimi muuttui 1961 maatalousoppilaitokseksi ja koulutuskuntayhtymän hallintaan siirtyessä 1994 Ruukin maaseutuoppilaitokseksi. Päärakennusta korjattiin 1995.

The Ruukki agricultural school is a unified and well-preserved ensemble of school buildings. Founded to develop the professional skills of the region's farmers, the school is part of the state's agricultural education of the 20th century.

On the northern bank of the Siikajoki, the school's building stock represents 1920s classicism. The timber buildings include the two-storey main building and student dormitory, and the director's residence, centrally placed in the courtyard area. Behind the main building are two outbuildings. The peiterimoitetut buildings, typical of their period of construction, date from 1925-1927. The park-like courtyard is characterised by spruce hedges and a larch grove. A teaching farm operates in connection with the school.

Linked to the school is the plant cultivation experiment station founded in 1924 on the Greus farm, that is, the MTT North Ostrobothnia Research Station. Together, the institutions have formed an agricultural centre and created conditions for developing the agriculture of the district. The oldest buildings of the research station are the building stock of the Ala-Greus and Yli-Greus farms, arranged as a closed courtyard, dating from the 19th century. The building stock of the school and experiment station has been supplemented during their operation.

A decree on farmers' schools, intended to provide instruction for the needs of the smallholding population, was adopted in 1890, and the first farmers' school in North Ostrobothnia was founded in Ylivieska in 1906. The school operated in several localities until it was decided to move it to the Greus farm in what was then the parish of Revonlahti, where its activities began in 1926. The state had bought the farm from Raahe Oy in 1924 for use as the North Ostrobothnia plant cultivation experiment station, when a decree on experimental and research activities in agriculture was issued.

The main building and outbuilding of the farmers' school were designed by master builder J. Karvonen, and the rector's residence, woodwork teacher's residence, woodworking hall, student dormitory and sauna were designed by architect H. Lankinen. Founded as a private farmers' school, the institution was taken under state management in 1933. The school was renamed an agricultural school in 1961, and when it passed to the management of a joint municipal education authority in 1994, it became the Ruukki Rural Education Institute. The main building was repaired in 1995.
