Kuvaus
Kivelän rakennusryhmä Sallan Paloperässä kuvastaa Koillis-Suomen pohjoisosiin 1700-luvulla syntyneen erämaa-asutuksen rakennuspaikka ja rakentamistapaa.
Paloperän Kivelän, Uusikujalan ja Kujalan rakennusryhmä on Sallan laajin yhtenäinen vanhaa talonpoikaisrakentamista edustava kokonaisuus. Kivelän neliömäiseen pihapiiriin kuuluu kaksi asuinrakennusta, kaksi navettaa, aittoja, sauna ja kesäpuolen sisältävä puoji, joista vanhin rakennus on 1688 rakennettu kala-aitta.
Historia
Koillis-Suomen pohjoisosat, kuten nykyisen Sallan kunnan alue saivat pysyvän asutuksen 1700-luvun lopulla. Muusta Koillis-Suomesta poiketen kaskiviljely ei ollut Sallassa yhtä merkittävä elinkeino kuin Koillis-Suomen eteläisemmissä osissa. Sallassa suomalaiset uudisasukkaat omaksuivat poronhoidon saamelaisilta. Saamelaisporonhoidosta poiketen porot koottiin talveksi ja päästettiin kesäksi laitumelle.

Description
The Kivelä building group in Paloperä, Salla, illustrates the building site and building method of the wilderness settlement that arose in the northern parts of Northeast Finland in the 18th century.
The Kivelä, Uusikujala and Kujala building group in Paloperä is the most extensive coherent ensemble of old farmhouse construction in Salla. The square courtyard of Kivelä includes two residential buildings, two cowsheds, granary storehouses, a sauna and a puoji containing a summer side, of which the oldest building is the kala-aitta, built in 1688.
History
The northern parts of north-eastern Finland, such as the area of the present-day municipality of Salla, received permanent settlement at the end of the 18th century. Unlike the rest of north-eastern Finland, slash-and-burn cultivation was not as important a livelihood in Salla as in the more southerly parts of north-eastern Finland. In Salla, Finnish settlers adopted reindeer herding from the Sami. Unlike Sami reindeer herding, the reindeer were gathered in for the winter and released to pasture for the summer.
