The Finnish Heritage Agency's description

Oulaisten asema on 1886 valmistuneen Seinäjoki-Oulu-radan alkuperäinen asema, joka on säilyttänyt suureksi osaksi rakentamisaikaisen, tyyppipiirustuksin toteutetun asunsa.

Oulaisten aseman rakennuskanta on pääasiassa vuosilta 1886-1910. Seinäjoki-Oulu-radan asema on rakennettu noudattaen IV-luokan tyyppiaseman n:o 1 piirustuksia. Asemarakennus sijaitsee asema-alueen pohjoispäässä. Asema-alueen kolmen asuinrakennuksen talousrakennukset muodostavat Rautatiekadun laitaan yhtenäisen rakennusrivin.

Vaasan radan jatke Seinäjoelta Ouluun valmistui 1886. Oulaisten rautatieasema rakennettiin 1884-1886 ja avattiin liikenteelle heti radan valmistuttua.

Oulainen oli 1960-luvulle asti vilkas puutavaran lastauspaikka. Tavaraliikenteen huippuaikaa oli 1910-luku. Asemalle ajettiin Pyhäjoessa uitettuja tukkeja ja Pyhäjoen sahojen sahatavaraa edelleen kuljetettavaksi.

Oulainen station is the original station of the Seinäjoki-Oulu railway, completed in 1886, and it has largely retained its appearance from the construction period, which was carried out using standard type drawings.

The building stock of Oulainen station dates mainly from 1886-1910. The Seinäjoki-Oulu railway station was built following the drawings of the class IV type station no. 1. The station building is located at the northern end of the station area. The outbuildings of the three residential buildings in the station area form a continuous row of buildings along the edge of Rautatiekatu.

The extension of the Vaasa Railway from Seinäjoki to Oulu was completed in 1886. Oulainen railway station was built in 1884-1886 and opened to traffic as soon as the line was completed.

Until the 1960s, Oulainen was a busy loading point for timber. The peak period for freight traffic was the 1910s. Logs floated down the Pyhäjoki river and sawn timber from the sawmills of Pyhäjoki were brought to the station for onward transport.
