The Finnish Heritage Agency's description

Rautatieaseman rakennukset poltettiin Lapin sodassa lokakuussa 1944.

Asemarakennus paloi maan tasalle 6.12.2014.

Muurola station is one of the small railway stations on the Kemi–Rovaniemi line, where all the buildings were built to replace those burned in the Second World War.

The station area, located quite centrally in relation to the settlement of Muurola village and the tuberculosis sanatorium area from the post-reconstruction period, well represents post-war railway construction in the north. The station building (burned 6.12.2014) and the two residential houses with their outbuildings form the station's unified whole.

The railway between Oulu and Kemi was completed in 1902, and the section between Kemi and Tornio in 1903. A continuation to Rovaniemi had been planned from 1886, but the Emperor only signed the construction order in 1906, and the line was completed in 1909. During the war, German troops built barracks between the station area and the tuberculosis sanatorium at Muurola. The railway station buildings were burned during the Lapland War in October 1944.

The station building burned to the ground on 6.12.2014.
