The Finnish Heritage Agency's description

Kaltsila, Uusikylä ja Vanhakylä ovat keskiaikaisia maarekisterikyliä. Kolmen lähekkäin sijoittuneen kylän muodostama hyvin säilynyt kylämaisema on syntynyt isonjaon jälkeen, jolloin talot rakennettiin lähemmäksi peltoja.

Kaltsilan kylä sijaitsee Kotojärven rannalla. Uudenkylän taloja on Kotojärvestä Rautaveteen laskevan laskuojan, Harjastenojan, varrella. Vanhankylän talot jäävät alueen länsiosaan. Kylien maisemakuvalle ovat ominaisia korkeat, havumetsän peittämät mäet ja niiden väliin jäävät järveä kohti loivasti viettävät viljelysmaat, joita metsäsaarekkeet katkovat.

Kantatilat sijaitsevat peltojen yhteydessä mäenkumpareilla ja maiseman muotoja seuraavien paikallisten hiekkateiden varsilla. Perinteistä rakennuskantaa on säilynyt mm.

Narvanmatkantie. Tiivis kylämaisema hajosi isonjaon jälkeen kantatalojen muuttaessa lähemmäksi peltovainioitaan. Kaltsilan taloista Rosila jäi vanhaan kyläkeskustaan.

Kaltsilan kansakoulu valmistui 1910. Vanhankylän päärakennus rakennettiin 1925 (H. Tiitola) ja pirttirakennus 1800-luvun alkupuolella. Rosilan päärakennus valmistui 1898, pirttirakennus 1827 ja vilja-aitta 1779. Sallin päärakennuksen hirsirunko rakennettiin 1877, ulkoasu valmistui 1913 muutoksessa ja aitat rakennettiin 1700-luvulla. Punton tilan päärakennuksen runko valmistui 1800-luvun alussa. Nykyasuun rakennus saatettiin 1914, jolloin rakennettiin myös toinen asuinrakennus. Tilan aitoista kaksi valmistui 1793 ja yksi 1804. Rosilan jalkamyllyä uusittiin 1895 ja 1930.

Kaltsila, Uusikylä and Vanhakylä are medieval maarekisterikylä villages. The well-preserved village landscape formed by three closely situated villages came into being after the isonjako, when houses were built closer to the fields.

The village of Kaltsila is located on the shore of Kotojärvi. The farms of Uudenkylä are situated along the Harjastenoja, a drainage stream flowing from Kotojärvi into Rautavesi. The farms of Vanhankylä are located in the western part of the area. The landscape of the villages is characterised by high hills covered with coniferous forest, and between them cultivated land sloping gently towards the lake, interrupted by forest islands.

The kantatilat are located in connection with the fields, on hillocks and along local gravel roads that follow the shape of the landscape. Traditional building stock has survived, among others, at the ratsutila farms of Vanhankylä and Rosila and at the talonpoikaistila farms of Salli and Punto. Residential buildings from the early 19th century and outbuildings from the 18th century have survived in the yards of the kantatilat. The newer main buildings date mainly from the end of the 19th century and the early 20th century. Some old cottager dwellings have also survived in the Rosila and Vanhankylä areas. The village settlement also includes the Rosila foot mill from the 1820s, still standing in its traditional location.

The village of Kaltsila in Tyrvää parish was settled at the latest during the Early Middle Ages. In the 1560s Kaltsila had five farms. The compact village with its fields lay on a low ridge by the shore of Kotojärvi (formerly Rudasjärvi). The compact village of Uudenkylä lay on a small hill beside the Harjastenoja stream. In the 1560s the village had six farms. In the 1560s Vanhankylä had four farms. In the 17th century the so-called Narvanmatkantie was cleared north of the villages, leading from Tyrvää to Vesilahti. The compact village landscape broke up after the isojako (general land partition), as the parent farms (kantatalo) moved closer to their fields. Of the farms in Kaltsila, Rosila remained in the old village centre.

The Kaltsila kansakoulu (elementary school) was completed in 1910. The main building of Vanhankylä was built in 1925 (H. Tiitola), and its pirttirakennus in the first half of the 19th century. The main building of Rosila was completed in 1898, its pirttirakennus in 1827 and its vilja-aitta (grain granary) in 1779. The log frame of the main building of Salli was built in 1877, its exterior was completed in 1913 in an alteration, and its aitat (granary storehouses) were built in the 18th century. The frame of the main building of the Punto farm was completed at the beginning of the 19th century. The building was brought to its present form in 1914, when a second residential building was also constructed. Of the farm's aitat, two were completed in 1793 and one in 1804. The jalkamylly (treadle mill) of Rosila was renewed in 1895 and 1930.
