The Finnish Heritage Agency's description

Ruokojärven kulttuurimaisema edustaa Satakunnan vanhoille erämaille syntynyttä vanhinta talonpoikaisasutusta, josta on muodostunut kirkonkylän keskus.

Ruokojärven itärannalla oleva Kankaanpään Alakylä on säilyttänyt vanhan agraarikylän ilmeen aivan uuden kaupunkirakenteen vierustalla. Alakylä edustaa seudun vanhinta talonpoikaisasutusta. Oukarin, Vanha-Hongon ja Päiviken tilojen rakennuskanta muodostaa yhtenäisen ryhmän kirkon ja järven välisessä peltomaisemassa. Maatilojen nykyinen rakennuskanta on etupäässä 1800-luvulta. Oukarin päärakennuksen runko on 1700-luvulta, Vanha-Hongon ja Päiviken päärakennukset ovat 1800-luvulta.

Ruokojärven rannalla oleva Kelminmäki on ikivanha nuorison kokoontumispaikka. Maisema jatkuu rantapeltoina ja maatiloina järven länsipuolella.

Intendenttikonttorin 1834 suunnittelema empiretyylinen kirkko sijaitsee mäellä näkyen kauaksi Ruokojärven taakse. Pohjamuoto on tasavartinen, sisänurkista viistetty risti, johon lännessä liittyy torni. Sisätilassa keskikupoli kohoaa ristivarsien tynnyriholveja ylemmäksi.

Kankaanpää perustettiin Ikaalisten saarnahuonekunnaksi 1756, jolloin rakennettiin pitäjän ensimmäinen kirkko. Kappelioikeudet Kankaanpää sai 1759. Ikaalisten kirkkopitäjä purettiin 1841, jolloin Kankaanpäästä tuli itsenäinen seurakunta.

Harvaan asutussa Kankaanpäässä oli 1560-luvulla kolme taloa, joista Ruokojärven rantaan muodostivat kylän Honko, Oukari ja Päivike.

Ensimmäisen kirkon korvaajaksi Intendenttikonttorin suunnittelema puinen ristikirkko rakennettiin 1834-1839. Kirkkoa korjattiin 1936 arkkitehti K.S. Kallio suunnitelmin. Kirkon sisätila palautettiin alkuperäiseen asuunsa 1988 Heikki Elomaan tekemien suunnitelmien mukaisesti.

The Ruokojärvi cultural landscape represents the oldest farmstead settlement, which arose on the old wilderness of Satakunta, and from which the church village centre has developed.

The Kankaanpää Alakylä on the eastern shore of Ruokojärvi has retained the appearance of an old agrarian village right next to the new town structure. Alakylä represents the oldest farmstead settlement in the area. The building stock of the Oukari, Vanha-Hongo and Päivike farms forms a cohesive group in the field landscape between the church and the lake. The present building stock of the farms is mainly from the 19th century. The frame of the main building of Oukari dates from the 18th century, while the main buildings of Vanha-Hongo and Päivike are from the 19th century.

Kelminmäki, on the shore of Ruokojärvi, is an age-old gathering place for young people. The landscape continues with shoreline fields and farms on the western side of the lake.

The Empire-style church designed by the Intendenttikonttori in 1834 stands on a hill, visible from far beyond Ruokojärvi. The plan is a Greek cross with the inner corners chamfered, to which a tower is attached on the west. In the interior, the central dome rises higher than the barrel vaults of the cross arms.

Kankaanpää was established as the saarnahuonekunta of Ikaalinen in 1756, when the parish's first church was built. Kankaanpää received chapel rights in 1759. The Ikaalinen church parish was dissolved in 1841, when Kankaanpää became an independent parish.

In sparsely populated Kankaanpää there were three farms in the 1560s, which on the shore of Ruokojärvi formed the village of Honko, Oukari and Päivike.

As the replacement for the first church, a wooden cruciform church designed by the Intendenttikonttori was built in 1834-1839. The church was repaired in 1936 to plans by architect K.S. Kallio. The church interior was restored to its original appearance in 1988, according to plans drawn up by Heikki Elomaa.
