The Finnish Heritage Agency's description

Huovilan puisto on ideaalin maisemapuiston ainutlaatuinen esimerkki Suomessa.

Vanhojen kyläkeskusten, maanteiden ja viljelymaisemien keskellä oleva Huovilan puisto on yli kolmen hehtaarin laajuinen englantilaistyylinen maisemapuutarha, joka sijaitsee korkean harjun ja matalamman kukkulan välisessä purolaaksossa. Puiston maisemallisen keskipisteen muodostavat neljä purosta padottua lampea. Mutkitteleva käytäväverkko kiertää vesiaiheita johtaen aukioilta levähdyspaikoille ja metsäisille vyöhykkeille. Huovilan 1900-luvun alussa suunnitellun uuden päärakennuksen graniittinen kivijalka muodostaa puistoon raunioromanttisen elementin.

Niiden koillispuolella on Uusikartanon pihapiiri, jonka 1890-luvulta oleva päärakennus on insinööri Collinin suunnittelema.

Huovilan ratsutilan (nyk. Uusikartano) päärakennus rakennettiin 1890-luvulla Collinin suunnitelmien pohjalta. Ratsastuspuistoksi tarkoitetun luonnonpuiston lisäksi Collinin suunnitelmiin kuuluivat 1900-luvun alkupuolella uuden talouskeskuksen ja päärakennuksen rakennuttaminen Hiidenmäelle. Päärakennuksen rakennustyöt päättyivät pian kivijalan valmistumisen jälkeen 1912. Hiidenmäen talousrakennuksista suuri navetta muutettiin huvilamaiseksi asuinrakennukseksi.

Puiston rakentamisen jälkeen yli 2000 hehtaaria käsittäneen ratsutilan maat ja rakennukset myytiin vähä vähältä, jolloin jäljelle jäivät vain rappeutuvat huvila ja puisto. Huovilan puisto siirtyi 1953 Kärkölän kunnan omistukseen, jolloin huonokuntoinen huvila purettiin. Puisto restauroitiin 1990-luvulla ja vihittiin käyttöön kesällä 2001.

Huovila park is a unique example of the ideal landscape park in Finland.

Surrounded by old village centres, main roads and cultivated landscapes, Huovila park is an English-style landscape garden covering more than three hectares, located in a stream valley between a high ridge and a lower hill. The landscape focal point of the park is formed by four ponds dammed from streams. A winding network of paths circles the water features, leading from open squares to resting places and wooded zones. The granite plinth of the new main building of Huovila, designed in the early 20th century, forms a ruin-romantic element in the park.

The park area is reached across fields along the 700-metre-long "Lemmenkuja". The lane was originally lined with lime trees, and in the early 20th century Siberian spruces were planted between the lime rows. The present park lane consists only of Siberian spruces.

From the time of the park's builder, engineer Carl Constantin Collan, the architecturally distinctive groom's cottage, brick sauna and cattle shed building have survived at Hiidenmäki. To their north-east is the Uusikartano yard, whose main building dating from the 1890s was designed by engineer Collan.

The area also contains new buildings and structures, such as garden pavilions, bridges, benches and a fountain, which are partly reconstructions.

Carl Constantin Collin, who had studied engineering in Paris, designed and built in the 1890s a partly natural park area belonging to the Huovila riding estate, which he had inherited. The park included artificial ponds and plantings.

The main building of the Huovila riding estate (now Uusikartano) was built in the 1890s on the basis of Collin's plans. In addition to the natural park intended as a riding park, Collin's plans included, in the first half of the 20th century, the construction of a new farm centre and a main building at Hiidenmäki. Construction work on the main building ended shortly after the completion of its stone foundation in 1912. Of the farm buildings at Hiidenmäki, the large cowshed was converted into a villa-like residential building.

After the park was built, the lands and buildings of the riding estate, which had covered more than 2000 hectares, were sold off little by little, leaving only the decaying villa and park. In 1953 Huovila park passed into the ownership of Kärkölä municipality, whereupon the dilapidated villa was demolished. The park was restored in the 1990s and opened for use in summer 2001.
