The yard of the Jylkkä farmstead, with its residential buildings of different ages and its outbuildings, is an illustrative and well-preserved example of prosperous Ostrobothnian farm building at the beginning of the 19th century.

Jylkkä is located in Mehtäkylä in Kalajoki, in the immediate landscape of a side branch of the Yppärinjoki. In the yard of Jylkkä, which lies on a forest island surrounded by fields, there are three residential buildings of different ages and a long two-storey luhtiaitta. Outside the enclosed yard is a group of outbuildings, such as a cowshed and a riihi, as well as small granary storehouses.

The Jylkkä yard and its three residential buildings already existed at the beginning of the 19th century, when three brothers lived on the farm. One of the residential buildings was moved for a time to Yppäri, but was re-erected in the Jylkkä yard.

The church builders Matti Jylkkä and his son Simo Jylkkä-Silvén came from the parent farm Jylkkä.
