Kuvaus
Kylän keskienen alue on Lapin muihin maatalouskyliin verrattuna tiiviisti rakennettu. Vaaran rinteeseen on raivattu avarat viljelysalat.

Description
Sirniö village is a cohesive whole in both its landscape and its building stock. The central area of the village is densely built compared with other agricultural villages in Lapland. Extensive cultivated fields have been cleared on the slope of the vaara. The village is one of the oldest in Posio, and its character is shaped by traditional building. Between the main buildings there is a substantial stock of outbuildings, and the village road winds among them, opening views at times onto the cultivated clearings filled with barns on the lower slopes. The oldest of the village's outbuildings date from the 18th century, and its dwellings from the early 19th century.
History
The first Finnish settlers in Posio arrived in the second half of the 16th century, settling among others on the shore of the Sirniö pond. Previously the Posio area had been a hunting and fishing ground of the Kemi and Ii people. For several generations Sirniö was a village of smiths, whose prosperous building stock was underpinned by tar burning and transport.
