The Finnish Heritage Agency's description

Korvanniemi on maisemallisesti ikivanhan agraarimaiseman edustaja ja sen rakennuskannan ryhmittely liittyy vanhaan kylämuodostuksen perinteeseen.

Korvanniemen kylän maatilat ovat asettuneet kapealle kaistaleelle Nuasjärven pohjoisrannalle. Maisemallisesti merkittävä paikka on Kamarilahti dyynimäisine mäntyniemineen.

Varsinaisen kyläasutuksen länsipuolelle 1900-luvun alussa syntynyt huvila-alue on Sokajärven ohella Kainuun ainoa varsinainen huvila-alue. Kajaanilaisten säätyläisten huviloita ovat mm. Aarreniemi (1903, laajennettu 1920-luvun alussa), Horsmala (1923) ja Päiväkumpu (1913). Horsmalan huvilan rannassa olleesta kylän laivalaiturista on säilynyt jäänteitä.

Korvanniemelle Oulujoen vesireitin varrelle syntyi asutusta jo 1500-luvulla. Turunkorvan talo oli Kajaanin hopmannina linnan rakentajana tunnetun majuri Samuel Långin hallussa 1600-luvulla. 1600- ja 1700-luvun taitteessa tilaa isännöi Simon Afflecke eli legendaarinen Simo Hurtta, jonka raaka veronkantotapa nostatti kapinamieltä. Venäläiset joukot hävittivät Turunkorvan 1716 kuten Kajaanin linnankin.

Kylä pysyi pitkään pienenä. 1900-luvun alussa alueelle syntyi huvila-asutusta.

Korvanniemi is, in landscape terms, a representative of an ancient agrarian landscape, and the grouping of its building stock is linked to the tradition of old village formation.

The farms of the village of Korvanniemi are situated on a narrow strip on the northern shore of Nuasjärvi. A landscape-significant place is Kamarilahti, with its dune-like pine promontories. The village landscape, bordered by dark forest, with its steep fell-side fields and its pasture and hakamaa, is archaic and old-fashioned. The village continues the Kainuu agrarian tradition, although the building stock is in many places new.

The farms of Merilä, Erola, Vanhatalo, Kantola, Korva, Keskitalo and Uusitalo are in a dense group on both sides of the village road. The main building of Erola, dating from 1906, was extended in 1912 and clad in the early 1930s. The residential buildings of Uusitalo, located at the southern tip of Korvanniemi, date from the 1890s and the 1970s; the granary storehouse dates from the end of the 18th century.

The villa area that arose at the beginning of the 20th century to the west of the actual village settlement is, along with Sokajärvi, the only real villa area in Kainuu. The villas of the Kajaani gentry include, among others, Aarreniemi (1903, extended in the early 1920s), Horsmala (1923) and Päiväkumpu (1913). Remains survive of the village's boat landing that was on the shore of the Horsmala villa.

Settlement at Korvanniemi, along the Oulujoki waterway, arose as early as the 16th century. The farm of Turunkorva was held in the 17th century by Major Samuel Lång, who served as hopmann in Kajaani and is known as the builder of the castle. At the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries the farm was run by Simon Afflecke, or the legendary Simo Hurtta, whose brutal method of tax collection stirred up rebelliousness. Russian troops destroyed Turunkorva in 1716, as they did the castle at Kajaani.

The village remained small for a long time. In the early 20th century, villa settlement arose in the area.
