The Finnish Heritage Agency's description

Kappeliseurakunnaksi Lavia muodostettiin 1823. Lavian kirkko valmistui 1823. Alustavat piirustukset teki rakennusmestarina toiminut Juho Köykkä. Lopulliset, Carlo Bassin allekirjoittamat, piirustukset laadittiin Intendentinkonttorissa. Tornin ulkoasu muuttui 1800-luvun lopulla korjaustöissä. Suunnitelman laati arkkitehti Helge Rancken.

In the church village of Lavia, the raitti lined with deciduous trees, which runs parallel to the lake along the upper edge of the shoreline fields rising from Lavijärvi, has kept its old raitti structure well.

Along the raitti, in addition to the west-towered, equal-armed cross church (1823) and the parsonage (1870s), there are well-preserved farms and houses of the parish civil servant gentry, and behind the plots along the raitti a group of cottar dwellings, including the cottar areas of Konimäki and Kaivopuisto. Individual buildings that may be mentioned include the loan-grain storehouse and the farm centres and houses of Rankonen, Yli-Antila, Roikka and Markkula. The church village also has the plikka cottages of Katajisto, the Ala-Pekkala luhti and the former Forsvik copper forge. The cycle and pedestrian path built in recent decades has been implemented as a raised footpath in such a way that the structure of the raitti has not been broken.

Permanent settlement in the Lavia area began in the late Middle Ages. In the village of Lavia, which belonged to Karkku parish, there were eight farms in the 1560s. The village then formed the only village settlement around Karhijärvi. The first inhabitants were probably from Karkku. A compact cluster village developed on the isthmus between Karhijärvi, Naarasen and Lavijärvi.

Lavia first belonged to the Sastamala church parish and later to the Mouhijärvi parish, established in 1639. Lavia was formed into a chapel parish in 1823. Lavia church was completed in 1823. Preliminary drawings were made by Juho Köykkä, who worked as a master builder. The final drawings, signed by Carlo Bassi, were prepared at the Intendentinkonttori. The exterior of the tower changed at the end of the 19th century during repair work. The plan was drawn up by architect Helge Rancken.
