The Finnish Heritage Agency's description

Lapinjoen yläjuoksun laaja, useita keskiaikaisia kyliä käsittävä kylä- ja viljelymaisema edustaa länsisuomalaisten jokilaaksojen ryhmäkylän pitkää asutushistoriaa.

Lapinjoen vaihtelevien viljelysmaisemien reunamien kumpareille ja maantien varsille sijoittuvissa kylissä on säilynyt vanhaa maatiloihin liittyvää rakennuskantaa. Kyläkokonaisuuksista Kaukola on tiivein.

Kylän keskustasta kohti Kodiksamia erkanevan tien varrelle on keskittynyt kylän pienasutus. Joen yli johtaa Kustaa Stenforsin rakentama kaksikaarinen kivisilta vuodelta 1884.

Kodiksamin asutus on keskittynyt peltojen metsäsaarekkeisiin ja maanteiden varsille. Kylän etelä- ja länsipuolella avautuu laaja viljelymaisema. Perinteistä rakennustapaa edustavat Utulan, Pietilän, Nokan ja Saar-Uotilan tilat. Kylässä on säilynyt kaksi tuulimyllyä. Kansakoulu on valmistunut 1908.

Sukkalan kylä on keskittynyt Lapinjokilaaksoa rajaavan laajan metsäsaarekkeen reunaan. Maantien varrella oleva Isotalon talonpoikaistalon pihapiirissä on säilynyt tiivis rakennustapa. Päärakennus, pytinkirakennus, puotirivi, navetta ja aitat ovat pääosin 1800-luvulta.

Kuolimaan kylän viljelymaisema aukeaa Lapinjoen molemmin puolin, asutus on keskittynyt metsäsaarekkeisiin. Perinteistä rakennustapaa edustavat Anttilan, Pertolan ja Ollilan rakennusryhmät.

Etelässä viljelymaisema jatkuu Euran kunnassa Korven kylän puolella. Vanhan Lappi - Hinnerjoki -maantien varrella sijaitseva hyvin säilynyt Korven kyläkokonaisuus koostuu usean kantatalon vierekkäin sijaitsevasta runsaasta rakennuskannasta. Kylän ytimessä ovat Arvelan, Mäen, Nakkilan ja Pohjolan talot, joiden pihapiirien välitse maantie kaartuilee. Kylä-Airilan tilan pihapiiri kylän lounaislaidalla on edustava talonpoikainen kokonaisuus, samoin kylän länsipuolella pellon laidassa oleva Aro-Airila.

Kylistä Kodiksamin kylä on varhaiskeskiajalta. Uuden ajan alkupuolella, 1560-luvulla, kylissä oli yhteensä 32 taloa. Kylistä Kaukolassa ja Kodiksamissa oli kahdeksan taloa. Kaukolasta tunnetaan lisäksi kivikautinen asuinpaikka.

Nykyisin Euraan kuuluvan Korven kylän alueella on kivikautisen asutuksen merkkejä.

The extensive village and cultivated landscape of the upper reaches of the Lapinjoki, comprising several medieval villages, represents the long settlement history of the cluster villages of the river valleys of Western Finland.

In the villages situated on the hillocks along the edges of the varied cultivated landscapes of the Lapinjoki and along the roads, old farm-related building stock has survived. Of these village complexes, Kaukola is the most compact.

The villages of the Lapinjoki valley on the Rauma side include, among others, Kaukola, Kodiksami, Sukkala and Kuolimaa. The cultivated landscape that developed along the river and its tributary brooks continues to the south as the cultivated landscape of the village of Korpi, situated along the Luhdanoja, on the Eura municipality side.

The village of Kaukola is situated at the narrow, northernmost tip of the Lapinjoki cultivated valley. The backbone of the village is formed by the Lapinjoki and the old road running parallel to it, leading to Hinnerjoki. The residential plots of the village's farms lie side by side, and the dwelling houses are built parallel to the road. Traditional building stock has survived on the Krappe, Eskola, Riikilä and Länsi farms. Small-scale settlement of the village has concentrated along the road branching from the village centre towards Kodiksami. The two-arched stone bridge over the river was built by Kustaa Stenfors in 1884.

Settlement in Kodiksami is concentrated on wooded islets within the fields and along the roads. To the south and west of the village extends a wide cultivated landscape. The farms of Utula, Pietilä, Nokka and Saar-Uotila represent the traditional building method. Two windmills have survived in the village. The elementary school was completed in 1908.

The village of Sukkala is concentrated on the edge of the extensive wooded islet bordering the Lapinjoki valley. In the farmyard of the Isotalo farmhouse, situated along the road, a compact building form has survived. The main building, pytinkirakennus, puotirivi, cowshed and granary storehouses are mainly from the 19th century.

The cultivated landscape of the village of Kuolimaa opens on both sides of the Lapinjoki; settlement is concentrated on wooded islets. The building groups of Anttila, Pertola and Ollila represent the traditional building method.

To the south the cultivated landscape continues in the municipality of Eura, on the side of the village of Korpi. The well-preserved village complex of Korpi, located along the old Lappi – Hinnerjoki road, consists of a rich building stock of several parent farms situated side by side. At the core of the village are the farms of Arvela, Mäki, Nakkila and Pohjola, between whose yards the road curves. The farmyard of Kylä-Airila farm on the southwestern edge of the village is a representative farmhouse complex, as is Aro-Airila, situated at the edge of a field on the west side of the village. The farm centres of Aro-Airila, Sonkkila and Numme have moved away from the compact village centre. On the edge of the village is Linteeninmäki, which was originally settled by the village's cottars. The fields of the village of Korpi spread across the plain cut by the Luhdanoja, a small stream flowing into the Lapinjoki.

The settlement of the villages of the Lappi or Rauma parish that developed along the Lapinjoki and smaller tributary streams – Kaukola, Kodiksami, Kuolinmaa, Sukkala, Mäentaka and Korpi – dates from the Middle Ages. Of these villages, Kodiksami dates from the early Middle Ages. In the early modern period, in the 1560s, the villages had a total of 32 farms. Of the villages, Kaukola and Kodiksami had eight farms each. A Stone Age settlement site is also known from Kaukola.

In the area of the village of Korpi, which now belongs to Eura, there are traces of Stone Age settlement. The village has been permanently inhabited since the Middle Ages, and in the 1560s there were six farms in the village. The three large farms of Korpi village – Nakkila, Sonkkila and Airila – were located in the village centre, at a road junction. In the 17th century, the farms of the village became ratsutila farms. The road running through the village was already in use in the latter part of the 17th century.
