Karviankylä represents the oldest village settlement in the parish, and its building stock gives a good picture of the North Satakunta farmhouse building tradition. The cultivated land of this remote village consists of small-scale shore fields extending down to Karvianjärvi.

An old road follows the shoreline of Karvianjärvi, and along it are the farmyard centres of the kantatila farms. In the centre of the village are the farms of Vähä-Karvia, Hiedanpää, Kannisto, Sulonen and Lähdeniemi. The Lähdeniemi farm, with its puoti rows, long solarakennus buildings, numerous outbuildings and park, is a striking and valuable ensemble.

The extensive bog- and forest-dominated area between Ylä-Satakunta and Ostrobothnia remained largely uninhabited until the early modern period. It has been permanently inhabited since the mid-17th century.
