Kuvaus
Visavuoren taiteilijahuvila on kansallisromanttisen arkkitehtuurin tärkeimpiä suomalaisia rakennusmuistomerkkejä. Erämaahuvilat, joista ensimmäisinä ovat valmistuneet taiteilijoiden itsensä suunnittelemat Sääksmäen Visavuori ja Ruoveden Kalela, muodostavat omaperäisen ryhmän kansallisen arkkitehtuurityylin etsinnässä.
Kuvanveistäjä Emil Wikströmin 1800- ja 1900-lukujen vaihteessa Sääksmäelle Rauttunselän rannalle rakennuttaman erämaa-ateljeen kokonaisuuteen kuuluvat kansallisromanttiset asuin- ja ateljeerakennukset. Asuinrakennuksen seinät ovat vuoraamatonta hirttä. Ateljeerakennuksessa on luonnonkivisokkeli, rapatut lautaseinät ja kimpipaanukatto. Julkisivun muotokielessä on vaikutteita Itä-Karjalan kansanarkkitehtuurista. Ateljeerakennuksessa on avarien työtilojen lisäksi ollut Suomen ensimmäinen pronssivalimo. Rakennuksen tuulimyllyä muistuttavassa tornissa on tähtitorni.
Rakennusten välisellä kalliolla on lapinrauniot, joka on muinaismuistolain rauhoittama. Ympäristössä on Wikströmin perheen kesäasuntoja.
Visavuori sijaitsee Sääksmäen - Tarttilan valtakunnallisesti arvokkaalla maisema-alueella.
Historia
Pronssivalimo muutettiin 1960-luvulla kahvilaksi. Emil Wikströmin taiteilijakotimuseo avattiin Visavuoressa 1967. Ns. Kari-paviljonki rakennettiin kasvihuoneen paikalle 1980-luvulla Erkki Helamaan suunnitelmin. Taiteilijakotimuseon rakennusten laajamittainen restaurointityö valmistui 2003.

Description
The Visavuori artist's villa is among the most important Finnish building monuments of national romantic architecture. The wilderness villas, the first of which, designed by the artists themselves, were completed, Visavuori in Sääksmäki and Kalela in Ruovesi, form a distinctive group in the search for a national architectural style.
The national romantic residential and studio buildings belong to the complex of the wilderness studio that sculptor Emil Wikström had built at the shore of Rauttunselkä in Sääksmäki at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The walls of the residential building are of unlined log. The studio building has a natural stone plinth, plastered board walls and a kimpipaanukatto. The formal language of the façade shows influences from East Karelian vernacular architecture. In addition to spacious work rooms, the studio building housed Finland's first bronze foundry. The tower, resembling a windmill, contains an observatory.
On the rock between the buildings are the lapinrauniot, which is protected by the Antiquities Act. The surroundings include summer residences of the Wikström family.
Visavuori is located in the nationally valuable Sääksmäki–Tarttila landscape area.
History
Sculptor Emil Wikström designed a log sculpture studio for himself in 1893, which was completed in 1894 but burned in 1896. Wikström had a new residential building of the same style built on the site to his own drawings in 1899-1902, and in 1903 a separate studio building, which was extended in 1912. The bronze foundry was converted into a café in the 1960s. The Emil Wikström artist's home museum was opened at Visavuori in 1967. The so-called Kari-paviljonki was built on the site of the greenhouse in the 1980s to designs by Erkki Helama. Extensive restoration work on the buildings of the artist's home museum was completed in 2003.
