Laajoja järvialueita halkovan harjujakson solmukohdassa sijaitsevan Kangasalan kirkonkylää ympäröivät Liuksialan ja Vääksyn kartanot ovat 1500-luvun Suomessa voimakkaimmin Vasan kuningassuvun historiaan liittyneet kartanot. 1700-luvulla poikkeuksellisesti harmaakivestä rakennettu kirkko, kartanot ja suurtilat laajoine viljelymaisemineen kuvastavat vauraan suurtilapitäjän ydinalueen rakentumista 1500-luvulta 1900-luvun alkuun.
Kangasalan keskustassa oleva 1760-luvulla luonnonkivestä rakennettu kirkko on ensimmäisiä Tukholman yli-intendentinviraston suunnitelmien mukaan rakennettuja länsitornillisia ristikirkkoja. Jyrkkä, päädyistä aumattu katto on katettu paanuin. Kirkkoa on korjattu 1890-luvulla Josef Stenbäckin ja 1980-luvulla Seppo Rihlaman suunnitelmin. Puistomaista kirkkomaata rajaa kiviaita.
Liuksialan 1500-luvulta periytyvä kartano sijaitsee pienien järvien, Kirkkojärven ja Ahulin sekä suuremman Roineen välissä olevalla laajalla viljelyaukealla. Liuksialan kartanopihan ympärillä on laaja ja hyvin hoidettu puisto. Puiston itäpuolella olevan Pikku-Liuksialan tilan huvilamainen päärakennus lienee vuosisadan vaihteen tienoilta. Merkittävä maisemallinen elementti on Liuksialan kartanoon johtava, viljelyaukeaa halkova, yli kilometrin pituinen koivukuja. Kartanon vanhalla paikalla olevan puisen päärakennuksen ulkoasu on vuodelta 1902. Rakennuksen alla sijaitsevan kivikellarin on arveltu olevan 1500-luvulta. Tilustien varrella on väentupa ja punatiilinen navetta 1890-luvulta. Kulttuurimaisemaan kuuluu lisäksi Liuksialan kappeli.
Vääksyn kartano rakennuksineen on rakennettu 1900-luvun alkupuoliskolla. Kartanon vanhin rakennus on perimätiedon mukaan Kaarina Hannuntyttären aikana rakennettu kivikellari. Vääksyn jokivarressa on kartanon mylly, sähkölaitos, kartanomeijeri ja 1860-luvulla paikalle siirretty entinen Kuohun kylpylärakennus. Kartanoalueella on lisäksi useita 1920-luvulla rakennettuja työväen asuinrakennuksia. Vääksyn kartanon puisto on periytyy 1800-luvun alkuun.
Historia
Kangasala mainitaan 1366 omana pitäjänä. Keskiajalla pitäjän kirkko oli Liuksialassa. Herttualaan, nykyisen kirkon tuntumaan rakennettiin ensimmäinen kirkko 1645. Kivikirkkojen rakentaminen yleistyi keskiajan jälkeen vasta 1700-luvun loppupuolella. Ruotsin yli-intendentinviraston kirkkomääräysten takana oli hyödyn aikakauden valvonnan lisääntymisen lisäksi paloturvallisuus ja pelko metsävarojen loppumisesta. Kangasalan kivikirkko rakennettiin 1764-67 Antti Piimäsen ja muurarimestari Kustaa Rosenbergin johdolla. Myöhemmin valmistunut torniosa sortui 1782. Uuden tornin piirustukset laadittiin Tukholmassa ja muurarimestari Juho Ahlströmin rakentama uusi torni valmistui 1800.
Kangasalan vanha kirkonkylä, Liuksiala, muodostettiin 1556 kuninkaankartanoksi, joka läänitettiin 1577 leskikuningatar Kaarina Maununtyttärelle. Kartanon myöhempiä omistajia olivat Sigrid Vasa, Åke Tott, Klaus Tott ja amiraali Lorenz Creuz vanhempi. Vuodesta 1821 tila oli Meurman-suvun hallinnassa. 1800-luvun jälkipuolella Liuksialaa isännöi valtiopäivämies Agathon Meurman. Liuksialan puinen päärakennus valmistui 1804. Nykyiseen asuunsa se muutettiin 1902 (Berndt Blom). Liuksialan kivinen kappeli on pystytetty 1917-32 Josef Stenbäckin piirustusten mukaan pitäjän ensimmäisen kirkon sakastin paikalle.
Vääksyn kartano oli 1500-luvun alusta Wäxjöstä kotoisin olevan Westgöta-suvun rälssitilana. Jouduttuaan kuninkaan epäsuosioon 1555 suvun täytyi luovuttaa kartano kruunulle. Herttua Juhana lahjoitti kartanon rakastajattarelleen Kaarina Hannuntyttärelle mentyään naimisiin Katarina Jagellonican kanssa. Vääksyn kartano säilyi Kaarina Hannuntyttären jälkeläisten omistuksessa lähes kahdensadan vuoden ajan. Vääksyssä toimi useita myllyjä sekä konepajateollisuutta 1800-luvulla. 1900-luvulle tultaessa tila rappeutui. Tehtailija Antti Ahlströmin nuorin poika osti kartanon 1917 ja Ahlströmin aikana rakennettiin suurin osa nykyisistä tuotanto- ja asuinrakennuksista. 1800-luvun puolivälissä rakennettu Vääksyn päärakennus paloi 1942. Nykyinen päärakennus rakennettiin useassa vaiheessa vuodesta 1945 lähtien, myös kartanon talousrakennukset rakennettiin 1900-luvulla.
Sorolan kartano muodostui 1600-luvun keskivaiheilla kahdesta tilasta. Päärakennus rakennettiin 1933-1935 (A. Eränen).

Description
The manors of Liuksiala and Vääksy, which surround the Kangasala church village and lie at a junction of an esker section that cuts across extensive lake areas, were the manors most strongly associated with the history of the Vasa royal dynasty in 16th-century Finland. The church, built of grey stone in the 18th century, which was exceptional for the period, along with the manors and large estates with their extensive cultivated landscapes, reflects the formation of the core area of a prosperous parish of large estates from the 16th century to the early 20th century.
The church in the centre of Kangasala, built of natural stone in the 1760s, is one of the first cruciform churches with a west tower built to plans prepared by the yli-intendentinvirasto in Tukholma. The steep roof, with its gable ends hipped, is clad in paanu. The church was restored in the 1890s to designs by Josef Stenbäck and in the 1980s to designs by Seppo Rihlama. The park-like churchyard is bounded by a stone wall.
The manor of Liuksiala, dating from the 16th century, lies on an extensive cultivated clearing between the small lakes Kirkkojärvi and Ahuli and the larger Roine. Around the manor yard at Liuksiala is an extensive and well-kept park. The villa-like main building of the Pikku-Liuksiala holding, east of the park, probably dates from around the turn of the century. A significant landscape element is the birch avenue, over a kilometre long, which leads to the Liuksiala manor and cuts across the cultivated clearing. The exterior of the wooden main building on the manor's old site dates from 1902. The stone cellar beneath the building is believed to date from the 16th century. Along the farm roads are a väentupa and a red-brick cowshed from the 1890s. The cultural landscape also includes the Liuksiala chapel.
The Vääksy manor and its buildings were built in the first half of the 20th century. According to tradition, the oldest building on the manor is a stone cellar built during the time of Kaarina Hannuntytär. On the bank of the Vääksy river are the manor mill, the power plant, the manor dairy and the former Kuohu bathhouse building, which was moved to the site in the 1860s. The manor area also has several workers' residential buildings built in the 1920s. The park of Vääksy manor dates back to the early 19th century.
North of the Kirkkoharju esker, on the shore of Vesijärvi, spreads a cultivated plain, enlivened by the farmyards of the parsonage, Sorola manor and the Tavela holding, as well as park avenues and gardens. The two-storey main building of Sorola manor has both Classicist and Functionalist features. The yard of the Tavela holding includes, besides the main building completed in 1858, which resembles Liuksiala in its architecture, the Mummula and outbuildings from the turn of the century. In addition to the manors, the area includes the parsonages of the vicar and the curate, and the building groups of Karttiala and Saikku, also known as Noormarkku.
History
Kangasala is mentioned as a parish in its own right in 1366. In the Middle Ages the parish church was at Liuksiala. The first church was built at Herttuala, near the present church, in 1645. The construction of stone churches became common only in the late 18th century, after the Middle Ages. Behind the church regulations of the yli-intendentinvirasto in Sweden lay, in addition to the growing control characteristic of the age of utility, fire safety and fear of the depletion of forest resources. The stone church of Kangasala was built in 1764-67 under Antti Piimänen and master mason Kustaa Rosenberg. The tower section, completed later, collapsed in 1782. Drawings for the new tower were prepared in Tukholma, and the new tower, built by master mason Juho Ahlström, was completed in 1800.
The old church village of Kangasala, Liuksiala, was established as a royal manor (kuninkaankartano) in 1556, and in 1577 it was granted as a fief to Dowager Queen Kaarina Maununtytär. Later owners of the manor included Sigrid Vasa, Åke Tott, Klaus Tott and Admiral Lorenz Creuz the Elder. From 1821 the estate was under the control of the Meurman family. In the latter half of the 19th century Liuksiala was managed by member of the Diet Agathon Meurman. The wooden main building of Liuksiala was completed in 1804. It was altered to its present appearance in 1902 (Berndt Blom). The stone chapel of Liuksiala was erected in 1917-32 to Josef Stenbäck's drawings, on the site of the sacristy of the parish's first church.
From the early 16th century, Vääksy manor was a rälssitila of the Westgöta family, originally from Wäxjö. Having fallen out of favour with the king in 1555, the family had to surrender the manor to the Crown. Duke Juhana gave the manor to his mistress Kaarina Hannuntytär after marrying Katarina Jagellonica. Vääksy manor remained in the possession of Kaarina Hannuntytär's descendants for nearly two hundred years. Several mills and engineering works operated at Vääksy in the 19th century. As the 20th century arrived, the estate fell into decline. The youngest son of manufacturer Antti Ahlström bought the manor in 1917, and most of the present production and residential buildings were erected during the Ahlström period. The main building of Vääksy, built in the mid-19th century, burned down in 1942. The present main building was built in several stages from 1945 onwards; the manor's outbuildings were also built in the 20th century.
Sorola manor was formed in the mid-17th century from two holdings. The main building was built in 1933-1935 (A. Eränen). The main building of the old Tavela ratsutila was completed in 1858, and it received its present, more ornate appearance in the 1890s. The stone main building of the vicar's parsonage was built in 1917 (H. Tiitola); the wooden main building of the curate's parsonage had already been completed in the 1870s.
