The Finnish Heritage Agency's description

Korteniemen metsänvartijan tila on tyypillinen, hyvin alkuperäisessä asussaan säilynyt pientila, joka kuvastaa valtion metsätalouden harjoittamista 1800-luvulla ja 1900-luvun alussa.

Korteniemen entinen metsänvartijan tila sijaitsee Liesjärveen pistävässä niemessä, Tammelan Letkun kylän takamailla. Seudulla, joka on muodostettu Liesjärven kansallispuistoksi, on harjoitettu kaskeamista.

Tilan 1800-luvun lopulta ja 1900-luvun alusta peräisin oleva rakennuskanta käsittää paritupatyyppisen asuinrakennuksen lisäksi pienten peltojen ympäröimät talousrakennukset, karjarakennuksen, tallin, kalustovajan, saunan ja savusaunan, halkovajan, ladon, riihen, makasiinin, maakuoppakellarit, perunakuopan, tervahaudan, miilun ja jäävaraston. Tilakeskuksen rannassa on kivikautinen asuinpaikka.

Korteniemen uudistila muodostettiin 1792, kun Letkun kylän Heikkilän talosta erotettiin isonjaon yhteydessä ns. liikamaina sen itäiset, Korteniemeksi kutsutut alueet. Liikamaalle jäi vanha torppa, josta tuli kruunun uudistila. Uudistila joutui 1800-luvun alussa koko muun kulmakunnan kanssa Turpoon sahan omistukseen. Korteniemestä tehtiin torppa 1800-luvun puolivälissä.

Turpoon sahan maat siirtyivät torppineen, maineen ja metsineen valtiolle 1878. Sahalta ostetut alueet yhdistettiin Metsähallituksen Lopen hoitoalueeseen ja alueesta muodostettiin Wahteriston kruununpuisto. Korteniemestä tehtiin Kyynärän vartiopiirin metsänvartijatila. Sahan viimeisestä torpparista tuli metsänvartija, jonka tehtäviin kuului kruunun metsien valvonta, metsänhoitajan avustaminen, hakkuiden valvonta ja petoeläinten hävitys.

Metsänvartijantilan tilakeskus siirrettiin Metsähallituksen toimesta nykyiselle paikalleen 1880-luvun puolella, ja viljelykset raivattiin rakennusten ympärille. Toinen rakennusvaihe oli 1900-luvun alkupuolella, jolloin tilalle rakennettiin uusia talousrakennuksia. Korteniemen puutarha perustettiin 1910-luvulla.

Liesjärven kansallispuisto muodostettiin vanhoista valtionmaista 1956 ja 1981. Aluetta laajennettiin 2000.

The Korteniemi forester's croft is a typical, very well-preserved small holding that has kept its original appearance. It reflects the state forestry operations carried on in the 19th century and early 20th century.

The former forester's croft at Korteniemi lies on a promontory jutting into Liesjärvi, in the backwoods of Letku village in Tammela. The area, which has been established as Liesjärvi National Park, was used for slash-and-burn cultivation.

The building stock of the holding, dating from the late 19th century and early 20th century, comprises a double-house type residential building, together with outbuildings surrounded by small fields: a cattle shed, stable, equipment shed, sauna and smoke sauna, woodshed, barn, grain-drying kiln, storehouse, earth cellars, potato pit, tar kiln, charcoal kiln and ice house. On the shore by the farmstead centre is a Stone Age settlement site.

The Korteniemi new farm (uudistila) was formed in 1792, when its eastern areas, known as Korteniemi, were separated from Heikkilä farm in the village of Letku during the isonjako (general partition) as so-called liikamaa. An old croft remained on the liikamaa and became a crown uudistila. At the beginning of the 19th century, the uudistila came under the ownership of Turpoo sawmill together with the rest of the kulmakunta. Korteniemi was made into a croft in the mid-19th century.

The lands of Turpoo sawmill, together with their crofts, holdings and forests, passed to the state in 1878. The areas purchased from the sawmill were merged into the Metsähallitus management area of Loppi, and the area was formed into the Wahteristo kruununpuisto (Crown park). Korteniemi was made into a forest guard's holding of the Kyynärä guard district. The sawmill's last crofter became the forest guard, whose duties included supervision of the crown forests, assisting the forester, supervision of felling and the eradication of predatory animals.

The main farm centre of the forest guard's holding was moved by Metsähallitus to its present location in the mid-1880s, and fields were cleared around the buildings. The second building phase was in the first half of the 20th century, when new outbuildings were built on the holding. The Korteniemi garden was established in the 1910s.

Liesjärvi National Park was formed from old state lands in 1956 and 1981. The area was extended in 2000.
