Kuvaus
Rautpohjan tehtaiden avoimeen korttelirakenteeseen perustuva asuinalue on arkkitehtonisesti merkittävä.
Jyväskylän Tourulaan perustetun Valtion kivääritehtaan, nykyisen Valmetin Tourulan tehtaiden ensimmäisen vaiheen tiiliset rakennukset on rakennettu 1926-1927. Klassistinen tehdasrakennus on puolustusvoimien rakennustoimiston arkkitehtien suunnittelema. Tehdasalueella on pieniä tehdashalleja 1930-luvulta 1970-luvulle alkuperäiseen tehdasmiljööseen sovitettuna. Tehtaan läheisyydessä on tehtaan johtajien asuinalue, jossa on kolme asuinrakennusta, niistä yksi on funkisrakennus 1930-luvulta. Alueen koilliskulmassa ovat työntekijöiden asuinkerrostalot 1940-luvulta.
Laukaan Vihtavuoren ruutitehtaan Mäen alueella on rivi- ja paritaloja ja Puiston alueella tehtaan johdon asuinrakennuksia vuosilta 1928-1929. Alueiden tyyppitalot ovat insinööri Hugo Karstenin suunnittelemia. 1930-luvun asuntotuotantoa ovat Ala-Sudetin asuinrakennukset. Ylä-Sudetin paritaloalue on 1940-luvun alusta. Vihtavuoren ruutitehtaan hierarkkisesti rakennetut asuinalueet muodostavat korkeatasoisen ympäristön. Koko aluetta leimaa puistomaisuus, puurivit ja sisäänajoteiden porttirakennelmat.
Tikkakosken asetehtaan tuotantorakennus on muodostunut useasta eri-ikäisestä rakennusosasta. Kaksikerroksinen, valkeaksi rapattu H-kirjaimen muotoinen betoninen rakennuskompleksi sai nykyisen laajuutensa 1940-luvulla. Lähes koko kerroksen korkuiset ikkunat valaisevat tehdassaleja. Tehtaan vanhin osa on rakennettu valimoksi 1912, se on laajennettu nappitehtaaksi 1915. Vähitellen tilat otettiin sotateollisuuden käyttöön. Tehdasrakennuksen nykymuoto on 1940-luvulta. Porttirakennus on 1970-luvulta.
Historia
Suomen itsenäistymisen jälkeen alkoi kansallisen sotatarviketeollisuuden luominen. Puolustuspoliittisista syistä sijaintipaikoiksi valittiin sisämaan paikkakunnat kuten Jyväskylän, Kuopion ja Tampereen seudut, jotka sijaitsivat hyvien rautatieyhteyksien varsilla.
Suojaisalle Jyväskylän seudulle keskittyi useita puolustus- ja sotatarviketeollisuuden yrityksiä, mm. Valtion kivääritehdas Tourulassa (1926), tykkitehdas Rautpohjassa (1938), sytytintehdas Jyskässä (1941) ja ruutitehdas Laukaan Vihtavuoressa (1926). Yksityistä sotatarviketeollisuutta edusti Tikkakosken konepaja, joka valmisti Suomi-konepistooleja. Sotien jälkeen aseteollisuus muutettiin siviiliteollisuudeksi.
Jyväskylän Tourulaan 1926 perustetun Valtion Kivääritehtaan tuotanto alkoi 1930. Tehtaan suunnittelusta vastasi Tanskan valtion Kööpenhaminan kivääritehtaan johtaja J.H. Vamberg. Tilaohjelman pohjalta pohjapiirustukset laati insinööri H. Karsten ja klassistiset julkisivupiirustukset arkkitehti Urho Åberg. Ensimmäinen sarjatuotantoase oli Lahti-Saloranta pikakivääri. Sodan aikana tehtaan tuotantoa hajautettiin eri paikkoihin.
Tikkakosken tehdas toimi 1893-1991.

Description
The munitions industry areas of Central Finland are linked, for defence policy reasons, to the munitions industry built inland after independence. The residential areas for workers and engineers built alongside the industrial plants are high-quality designs. State construction activity is represented by the Rautpohja gun factory and the Tourula rifle factory in Jyväskylä, and the Vihtavuori gunpowder factory in Laukaa. Private munitions industry was represented by submachine gun production at Tikkakoski.
The residential area of the Rautpohja factories, based on an open block structure, is architecturally significant. The unified functionalist apartment block area of the State Gun Factory was built in 1938-1939 to designs by architects Airi Seikkala-Viertokangas and Märtha Lilius-Tallroth. The area has 14 two-storey lamella houses rendered in light colours, residences for the director and engineers, and a fairly large service building.
The brick buildings of the first phase of the Valmet Tourula factories, the present successor of the State Rifle Factory founded in Tourula, Jyväskylä, were built in 1926-1927. The classicist factory building was designed by architects of the Defence Forces building office. The factory area includes small factory halls from the 1930s to the 1970s, adapted to the original factory milieu. Near the factory is a residential area for the factory directors, with three residential buildings, one of which is a functionalist building from the 1930s. In the north-eastern corner of the area are workers' apartment blocks from the 1940s.
The Mäki area of the Vihtavuori gunpowder factory in Laukaa has terraced and semi-detached houses, and the Puisto area has residential buildings for the factory management from the years 1928-1929. The type houses of these areas were designed by engineer Hugo Karsten. The residential buildings of Ala-Sudeti are housing production from the 1930s. The semi-detached house area of Ylä-Sudeti dates from the early 1940s. The hierarchically built residential areas of the Vihtavuori gunpowder factory form a high-quality environment. The whole area is characterised by a parkland character, tree rows and gateway structures at the entrance roads.
The production building of the Tikkakoski arms factory has been formed from several parts of different ages. The two-storey, white-rendered, H-shaped reinforced concrete building complex received its present extent in the 1940s. Windows almost the full height of the storey light the factory halls. The oldest part of the factory was built as a foundry in 1912 and was extended into a button factory in 1915. Gradually the premises were taken into use by the war industry. The present form of the factory building dates from the 1940s. The gatehouse dates from the 1970s.
History
After Finland's independence, the creation of a national military equipment industry began. For defence policy reasons, inland localities such as the Jyväskylä, Kuopio and Tampere areas were chosen as sites. These lay along good railway connections.
Several defence and military equipment companies were concentrated in the sheltered Jyväskylä area, including the State rifle factory at Tourula (1926), the artillery factory at Rautpohja (1938), the fuze factory at Jyskä (1941) and the gunpowder factory at Vihtavuori, Laukaa (1926). Private military equipment production was represented by the Tikkakoski engineering works, which manufactured Suomi submachine guns. After the wars, the arms industry was converted to civilian industry.
Production at the State rifle factory established at Tourula in 1926 began in 1930. The design of the factory was the responsibility of J.H. Vamberg, director of the Danish state's Copenhagen rifle factory. On the basis of the brief, the ground plans were drawn up by engineer H. Karsten, and the classicist façade drawings by architect Urho Åberg. The first mass-produced weapon was the Lahti-Saloranta pikakivääri. During the war, the factory's production was dispersed to various locations. After the war, the factory produced hardware goods such as hinges and corner brackets, as well as small-bore rifles. As war reparations products for the Soviet Union, it manufactured machinery for the timber and paper industries. In 1951 the factory became part of Valmet Oy, with the tractor as its main product. Industrial activity at Tourula ended in the 1980s and 1990s.
The Valtion Tykkitehdas, which had started operating in Katajanokka, Helsinki in January 1938, was moved to Rautpohja, Jyväskylä for strategic reasons in summer 1938. Military equipment production at the Tykkitehdas ended in autumn 1944, after the war. The factory's new name was Valtion Metallitehtaiden Rautpohjan Tehdas, and its products until 1952 were various heavy metal industry war reparations goods, including locomobiles and timber cranes. In 1951 the name was changed to Valmet Oy, and the factory's main products became paper machines.
The Valtion Ruutitehdas was established in Laukaa in 1920, and construction began in 1923. At the same time, the first residential buildings for officials and workers at Vihtavuori were built. The factory and residential areas were built on the lands of the Ahlbacka estate. Of the estate's buildings, the main building designed by Yrjö Blomstedt in 1902 and a group of outbuildings have survived. With the factory, the rural village became a small factory town. In 1982 the residential areas of Mäki, Ala-Sudet and Ylä-Sudet became a basic renovation pilot area, and most of its 23 houses were repaired according to a unified plan. The Vihtavuori gunpowder factory is situated apart from the residential area. The industrial area contains a considerable number of industrial buildings relating to the production stages of various products, belonging to the diversified defence equipment industry and the post-war chemical industry.
The industrial history of Tikkakoski began at the end of the 19th century, when a mill, a sawmill and a metalworking workshop were established on the edge of the rapids; this forms the origin of today's metal industry at Tikkakoski. Arms production began in the 1930s, when Tikkakosken Rauta- ja Puuteollisuusosakeyhtiö acquired the rights to the M/31 Suomi submachine gun. The Tikkakoski factory buildings were camouflage-painted in light and dark green for a long time, even after the war. Other products of the factory were sewing machines and shotguns. The Tikkakoski factory operated from 1893 to 1991.
