The Finnish Heritage Agency's description

Johannislundin lasitehdas on varhainen ja yksi pitkäikäisimpiä teollisuudenalansa edustajia maassamme.

Suuren metsäomaisuuden varaan perustettu Johannislund sijaitsee harvaan asutulla metsäseudulla. Johannislundin rakennuskanta on rakennettu vuoden 1815 ja 1950-luvun välisenä aikana. Tuotantorakennuksista lasihytti savupiippuineen on purettu. Hirsiset asuinkasarmit, ns. Yli- ja Alipykninki, on rakennettu 1860-luvulla. Ruukinkartanon päärakennus 1870-luvulta on rakennettu matkan päähän loivalle mäelle. Johannislundissa on useita arkkitehti Toivo Paatelan suunnittelemia rakennuksia 1930-luvulta, ennen vuotta 1911 rakennettu koulu sekä alueen pohjoisosassa noin 1890 rakennettu työväen asuinrakennus.

Johannislundin lasitehtaan toiminta alkoi 1813.

Tärkeimmällä sijalla tuotannossa olivat alusta alkaen pullot. Lasitehdasta laajennettiin 1860-luvulla ja uudistettiin 1937, jolloin vanha hytti purettiin ja arkkitehti Toivo Paatela suunnitteli tehtaan uudisrakennuksen. Tehtaan omistajat vaihtuivat usein, mutta tehdas oli toiminnassa muutamaa poikkeusta lukuun ottamatta vuoteen 1960 asti. Tehtaan viimeiset osat purettiin 1980-luvun alussa.

Johannislund glassworks is an early and one of the longest-lived representatives of its branch of industry in our country.

Johannislund, founded on the basis of a large forest estate, is located in a sparsely populated forest area. The building stock of Johannislund was built between 1815 and the 1950s. The glass hut with its chimney among the production buildings has been demolished. The log residential barracks, the so-called Yli- ja Alipykninki, were built in the 1860s. The main building of the Ruukinkartano manor, dating from the 1870s, was built at a distance on a gentle hill. Johannislund has several buildings from the 1930s designed by architect Toivo Paatela, a school built before 1911, and, in the northern part of the area, a workers' residential building built around 1890.

Operations at the Johannislund glassworks began in 1813. The site was suitable for glass production, since the sand of the heath was suitable for glassmaking, and wood was also abundantly available in the area. No road connections led to the site during the founding period of the works, and the long distances hampered the operation of the works. Johannislund's founder, ensign J.B. von Torcke, had a road link built to Kiikala church.

Johannislund's production included glass bottles, apothecary glassware, simple household glass, and green and white window glass, which were sold to the Turku region and to Sweden. From the outset, bottles held the most important place in production. The glass factory was extended in the 1860s and renovated in 1937, when the old glass hut was demolished and architect Toivo Paatela designed the new factory building. The factory's owners changed frequently, but the factory remained in operation until 1960, with a few exceptions. The factory's last parts were demolished in the early 1980s.
