Kuvaus
Panelian kylä edustaa Satakunnan vanhinta asutuksen ydinaluetta, jonka merkittävyydestä ja pitkästä asutushistoriasta kertoo Suomen suurin pronssikautinen röykkiöhauta, ns. Kuninkaanhauta. Tiheästi kosken partaalle rakennetun Panelian suurkylän alava, maisemallisesti vaikuttava viljelysaukea on entistä merenpohjaa.
Kylän historiallisesti merkittävin osa kirkkoineen ja teollisuuslaitoksineen on keskittynyt kosken partaalle. Kylän halki kulkee vanha maantie ja Paneliankosken yli johtaa leveäholvinen 1832 rakennettu kivisilta.
Sillan vieressä on harvinainen Rivimylly, jossa yhteen suureen kiviseen runkorakennukseen on sijoitettu useita myllyjä ja alun perin myös myllytupia. Rakennus, jonka toinen kerros on hirrestä, on ainakin osin 1800-luvun keskivaiheilta. Vesivoimalaitosrakentamisen historian kannalta tärkeä yksityinen sähkövoimalaitos 1920-luvulta tuo 1908 rakennetun meijerin kanssa lisänsä kylän teollisuushistoriaan. Jugendtyylinen meijeri on rakennettu graniitista ja punatiilestä.
Panelian kylästä länteen avautuu Saarenmaan laaja suonkuivatuksen seurauksena syntynyt viljelysaukea, jonka laitamille maatilat ovat keskittyneet.
Historia
1800-luvun puolivälissä alkoi entisen merenlahden raivaus pelloiksi. Panelian rukoushuoneyhdistyksen rakentama kyläkirkko valmistui 1909 (O. Salonen). Kirkon torni sai muotonsa 1950.
Kylän halki virtaavan joen myllyistä ensimmäinen maininta on 1600-luvun alkupuolelta. 1800-luvun keskivaiheilla rakennettu rivimylly on restauroitu ja sen kaksi myllykamaria, verstas ja vesiuoma on rakennettu uudelleen. Panelian osuusmeijerin suunnitteli rakennusmestari Jalmari Maunola Keskusosuusliike Hankkijasta. Meijeri valmistui 1908. Rakennusta muutettiin ja kunnostettiin arkkitehti Vuokko Löksyn tekemin suunnitelmin 1980-luvulla. Voimalaitos kanavineen valmistui 1921.

Description
Panelia village represents the oldest settlement core of Satakunta, the significance and long settlement history of which are attested by the largest Bronze Age cairn grave in Finland, the so-called Kuninkaanhauta. The low, scenically impressive cultivated plain of the large village of Panelia, built densely on the edge of the rapids, is a former seabed.
The historically most significant part of the village, with its church and industrial premises, is concentrated on the edge of the rapids. An old main road runs through the village, and a wide-arched stone bridge built in 1832 leads across Paneliankoski rapids.
Beside the bridge stands the rare Rivimylly, in which several mills, and originally also mill cottages, were placed in one large stone main building. The building, the upper storey of which is of log construction, dates at least in part from the mid-19th century. A private hydroelectric power station from the 1920s, important for the history of hydropower construction, adds, together with the dairy built in 1908, to the industrial history of the village. The dairy, in the Jugendstil style, is built of granite and red brick.
To the west of Panelia village opens the extensive cultivated plain of Saarenmaa, created as a result of bog drainage, on the edges of which the farms are concentrated.
History
Panelia was a significant settlement area in prehistoric times, at the mouth of the Eurajoki. At that time the shore waters of the Litorinanmeri still covered what are now the open fields of Panelia, and the settlement was concentrated at the head of the bay of that time. As the land rose, the bay dried up, and Panelia was abandoned during the Iron Age.
The village of Panelia came into being in the Middle Ages. In the 1560s the village had 20 farms, which made it the largest village in Ala-Satakunta. The central position and size of the village is shown by the preaching house that the farmers of Panelia built in the 1690s, which was however destroyed during the Great Wrath in the early 1710s.
In the mid-19th century the clearing of the former bay for fields began. The village church, built by the Panelia prayer house association, was completed in 1909 (O. Salonen). The church tower received its present form in 1950.
The earliest mention of the mills on the river flowing through the village dates from the early 17th century. The row mill built in the mid-19th century has been restored, and its two mill chambers, workshop and millrace have been rebuilt. The Panelia cooperative dairy was designed by master builder Jalmari Maunola of Keskusosuusliike Hankkija. The dairy was completed in 1908. The building was altered and renovated to plans by architect Vuokko Löksy in the 1980s. The power station with its canal was completed in 1921.
